Steve Gibson Supports the New Proposals for the League Shake Up According to the Telegraph.

I suppose its representative of the social class of the Government and its supporters.
Working class riff-raff can wallow in schitt - so long as we have our opera and the Albert Hallo_O

Well, yeah, but opera houses aren't spending £8m plus agent fees plus wages for five years on a fat tenor who only sings one out of three performances.

I stand to be corrected, of course.

It is a good point about agents. No wonder the government don't care
The government get away with not caring about football because they and the non footballing public see Citeh spend £60m on a defender and Spurs pay players £500k a week. Then players act like prats during a pandemic. Not to mention the corrupt owners that the authorities do nowt about. Football's shot itself in the foot too many times!

Football should have stood firm against the 'big clubs' in the late 80's and early 90's. Let them carry out their threats, and should do so this time.

Let them go, football is bigger than a handful of clubs, time the FA was run by people who realised this.

The history would go, it would be like a new beginning. Don't like that idea at all.
What about the teams that are a knats away from calling in the official receiver, they need a bigger slice of the pie now, 8-10 clubs reported on Sky today.

You’d think so but do you think the likes of West Ham will be that concerned for EFL clubs?

Well they nearly were one to be fair, I think some of the lower half clubs will be concerned, as hopefully they realise they may actually join the ranks sooner than later

The principle of more equitable distribution throughout the pyramid is the right one, however the concentration of power amongst the top six plus the other three clubs is entirely regressive, the proposal that current owners have the right to accept/refuse new owners is laughable when you consider what the Glazers have contributed during their ownership of Man United, whilst the fact the distribution is on a purely voluntary basis shows exactly what these clubs are looking to achieve.

Utterly transparent.

Confirmed Parry wasnt lying after Steve Gibson’s interview with the Daily Mail tonight of all papers. I do get where he comes from but I think the plan is doomed to failure for now. Where that leaves the EFL I dont know.

What a mess. I dont see how we wont see multiple club failures over the next month or so.

Nope, history is being formed all the time. It's about a redistribution of wealth and if it means change then the P.L needs to decide a way to do it. From an EFL point of view it's a good thing.

A power grab? - they have it now financially anyway. The Premier League gets TV rights largely as a result of the big 6. Southampton, Sheff Utd et al bring little or nothing to the financial party.
They are proposing giving 25% of that revenue to be shared with other clubs. That is a game changer.
The funds are likely to increase which just makes the pie bigger for everyone (including the big 6 and EFL clubs).
Reports suggest this could protect every club for the medium term,
Southanpton, Sheff Utd et al bring 38 games each a season to the table. The more the odds are stacked the less the sporting integrity. Spain is a great example of how stacking the odds in favour of 3 or 4 teams ruins the league.

They are proposing keeping 75% or retaining 3 times as much as they give away, thus broadening the gap. As that pie grows, teh relative gap grows. The reason they are offering this is because it is an opportunity for the big club greed to throw enough gold at everyone else to retain some dignity, while those big clubs grow bigger and bigger and the gap increases. The gap is too big already.

They need to scrap the League Cup - just to ensure that someone like the Boro could never again qualify for Europe.
No Europa League spot for the League Cup winners guarantees that all the top six will qualify for one of the two European competitions with the possibility of the plucky seventh placed team also qualifying if the FA Cup winners are one of the top six. I wonder how long it'll take before they decide that any club playing in Europe won't need to enter the cup until the fifth or sixth round - after all their overpaid prima donnas might get injured if they have play at some crummy lower league ground in early January - and they already play oh so many games for their tiny salaries.

Thing is though that gap already exists. Only two teams outside the big 5 have won the FA Cup in the last 25 years. Portsmouth and Wigan, the latter was 8 years ago. Since we won the League Cup only Swansea and Birmingham have won the League Cup outside the big 6. The last time 7 years ago. Just read the list. Its already very depressing.

Clubs out of the top 6 are mote likely to get into Europe by League position rather than win the Leavue Cup. Indeed we got to the Uefa Cup final did we not by qualifying finishing 7th when both Spurs and Man. City finished below us and what chance of that could ever happen again?

The ‘ top six ‘ or so they’re called with the other 3 will basically be given a license to write their own rule book . The pyramid is going to sell its soul to these money obsessed b@s***ds .

Give it a couple of years and they’ll vote to just carve it up further for their own benefit .
its no surprise they’re leaking this out now when clubs are desperate and likely snatch at the piecemeal offer .The chasm in the game has been obvious for years now with no inkling of care from the top table . Look at Man Utd and City just standing by when Bury died - not a word from them .

Footy is just getting destroyed like everything is in this current age . The me me me infatuation

Well you paint a gloomy and realistic picture for the future and that is why many are already inviting them to just go. I am trying to locate an article today headed up CIVIL WAR in which one of the big 6 chairman has threatened to quit the PL and form their own League. The FA have hit back and said they have the power to bar them from European competition. A breakaway is coming. You can just smell it.
