Steve Gibson Supports the New Proposals for the League Shake Up According to the Telegraph.

I thought Gibson and Parry were mortal enemies ('Three points'...'the whole of football is against you' etc).

I'm not sure I believe Parry. Gibson may have expressed an interest but "enthusiasm"? I imagine any owner would at least want to hear the proposal. Nothing from Gibson in the press. No quotes, no expressions of support. Interested that West Ham knew nothing about it and quickly disavowed it.

This Government is forcing companies out of business by choice.
Last night there was Ballet at Covent Garden.
There was a concert at the Southbank Centre.
Football clubs at local level -[not sure what tier it is] have been allowed to have fans in this week.
Then there is the concert at the Albert Hall where 3000 people are being allowed to attend.

Yet open air stadiums are not allowed to have paying customers through the gate - where a pre booked ticket and designated access and cleansing points have demonstrably worked. The Albert Hall has narrow entrances and exit points.

Just who the hell is making these decisions? Which other sector is being deliberately strangled by the Government? Even the "Arts" [according to a report on Radio 4] have been awarded funds to stave off closure.
Whereas we were all supportive of the arts on another thread I was watching last night as they were reading out which venue got what. £100m for this £60m for that etc, yet the government would only have to spend £250m to save the entire EFL!!

Equally no denial either which to me suggests it’s true. If it wasn’t I’d be issuing a very quick rebuttal. As the Orient chairman says why would Club owners in the lower leagues reject an offer of £5m a year instead of £2m. And a championship owner the opportunity of getting £22m instead of £14m. It’s all about the £££

It's time there were quotes from him in that case.

What was his stance on the original Premier League break away?

I'm not surprised Steve Gibson supports 'Project Big Picture'. It's about survival for a lot of clubs, don't look a gift horse in the mouth I say. One thing that won't change is that the top teams will always attract the big money, It's a chance to grab a bigger slice of the pie whilst still giving EFL teams the chance to hit the big time.
My concern is that the bigger clubs will start moves to break away and form a European Super League if the offer is not excepted.

Not surprising. Existing prem clubs are not getting any more money and West Ham won’t be bothered about EFL clubs. Yes they are being included in the additional power 9 but crucially the voting rights of ”the nine” includes a 2/3rds Majority carry so the big 6 can still if they so wish vote through their European Super League proposals anyway. That’s what West Ham are worried about.

Pay per view will grow, with the "big 6" voting to keep their own proceeds.
This will make the collective deal less valuable and the pot to split will be reduced.
The mix of revenue will be radically changed by this.
The EFL will end up receiving 25% of a much lower figure than it currently is, let alone what total football media spend will be.

They should get no support in getting ever more power. Power corrupts. Absolute...etc.
The day those clubs become more important than the competition they play in, is the day that the game is dead.

The Government could easily step in, support the EFL clubs, insist they restructure the game sustainably re wage caps etc and stop the need to sell out to the PL "big 6".
But they won't.

Totally agree. The FA will block this Current proposal anyway but if in the unlikely event that they did sanction it you would think the EFL would contract the PL to pay the 25% revenue share each year and that the PL couldn’t withdraw. For at least 20 years.

I suppose its representative of the social class of the Government and its supporters.
Working class riff-raff can wallow in schitt - so long as we have our opera and the Albert Hallo_O

Just had an email from the Palladium to say the Christmas panto has been given the go ahead for November and December.

Football should have stood firm against the 'big clubs' in the late 80's and early 90's. Let them carry out their threats, and should do so this time.

Let them go, football is bigger than a handful of clubs, time the FA was run by people who realised this.

People are acting surprised? I don't understand that. For me personally, Gibson proved he was a tory rat at the last election. What "man of the people" votes for a party, and endorses them that are the enemy of the working classes. He endorsed a political party who are currently giving billions of tax payers money to their doners (PPE), who are grabbing a pay rise while clapping for nurses and are making corruption the new normal. Gibson voted against a bloke who wanted to improve the lives of the working classes, who was willing to take on disgusting tax havens. Britain has the most tax havens in the world. Look into Serco and the Crown, you will then see the sespit this government are. So, why are people surprised?
I have a little task for you, go and find a true Socialist with £250m minimum to run a championship club.

Completely agree. Tell them no FA cup, no buying players from the EFL and their players cannot play for England.

Why don't galleries sell a painting a month from the cellars they never show?

Yeah, I reckon it was Parry saying "what would you say if Man Utd and Liverpool agreed to sanction a financial gift to every club in the league?" and Gibson going 'sounds good'. Not saying he's going to be against it especially considering how much money he provides to prop up the club at a time when it is all money going out and very little coming in, but doubt he's seen the whole proposal to comment.

The Leyton Orient chairman was on 5Live last night, fully in support of it (the guy is actually based in the States), but he had only seen the reported headlines too.

Tell you what it's a great way to shake out what people in football industry really think and where their interests really lie and there's definitely a schism in the making.
