Steffen’s performance yesterday explained….

He does seem to make a lot of mistakes. Not making mistakes is the top priority for a keeper. After all, a goalies mistake usually means a goal. No matter how good he may be for the rest of the match, if he drops a bo**ock he hasn't done is job if you ask me. The occasional mistake is only human but to make 2-3 or even 1 really every match is not good.

I think he's getting away with a lot because he's not Lumley or Bettinelli. If he was being compared to Schwarzer for example he'd be getting a lot more criticism

Exactly what I said after the QPR game. Glad someone else is saying it too. I think the longer we persist with him, the more he’ll cost us and it would worry me that it’d be when it counts. I.E. the playoffs.

Man City are like Chelsea: they buy up enough for three squads - loan them out and prevent other teams from buying them. Thus keeping prices in the market high.
But we are neither of those two teams and I couldnt give toss.
Our mince beef pies have got better by the way

Of the goals connected yesterday I don't think the keeper is at the top of the list of players who were culpable.

The two centre halves didn't do enough for either and Smith let the attacker in behind him for one of them.

He wasn’t the reason we lost yesterday. Made a great stop one on one to stop Dike getting his hat-trick. Maybe could have done better on the second, but Dike is only 8 yards out and you expect him to score from there.
The first shot of Dikes second goal wouldn't have gone through a wet gazette, pathetic keeping from a very poor keeper

Must have been disappointing for him not to go to Qatar. Been doing ok.
Whole club’s good at the moment, enjoyable times

Dear me. So tired of the Steffen bashing.
Fickle fans have short term memory loss. He was great against Sheffield United, had an unbelievable performance against Norwich and has made countless good saves.
For a third of the games this season he was under a different manager who we appeared to be sitting ducks under.
People pick out one loose pass then fail to mention the other 99% that go to his team mates.
Is he a bit lax? Sure
But as Carrick said, that's what he asks him to do. As a team that's new to playing out the back there's gonna be mistakes and you can't just blame him either. We're 3rd in the league and he's a massive reason why. Just get behind him whilst he's here. I'm sure he won't be next year and we'll have YET ANOTHER new keeper

Paddy is a midfielder fry should have started yesterday that was the learning curve for Carrick yesterday but still doesnt save steffan the way he switched off in the game with his passes would you want him playing for you in europe if we make it again leave him behind in the championship if we get promoted its where he belongs but not with us.
You might want to ask for some punctuation when it is your birthday.

Mad how some people still think the only part of a keeper's game is his saves/ save percentage, or don't realise that the keeper is the easiest target to go at, yet the one who gets least praise when they do something great, or consistently great.

Are all shots equal?
Are all chances equal?
What are they like on crosses?
Do all teams have the same number of defenders/ midfielders in support before and after saves?
How many times a game does a keeper smash the ball upfield to an opposition player, which later results in a goal against?
How many times a game does a keeper smash the ball upfield to his own player, which later results in the striker losing the ball, as the side doesn't have any players in support?
How many times does the keeper play a crap ball to a player, who has little chance of controlling it, or to the wrong side/ foot of him, which slows down attacks/ loses possession?
How many times does the keeper sweep/ not sweep successfully?
How vocal is the keeper?
When the keeper is vocal, is he saying the right things? (we've all heard to vocal Sunday league keeper/ centre back, talking absolute tosh, doing more harm than good).
How many times a game does a keeper play the ball to his own player, short to mid-range, which later results in a goal for?
How many times does the keeper play not just a pass, but the right pass, even if it's more difficult?

How many times have we scored this year playing out from the back, or with a passing style?

I'll eat my hat if overall he's cost us more than we've gained elsewhere.

Sure, in an ideal world he would be good at every aspect, better than the mean, but unfortunately, keepers who can do everything cost over £50m, more than our entire team.
