Starmer flying from London to Edinburgh

I'm gonna shock you now... brace yourself... ready?

Virgin Trains were the ones being dishonest about how crowded the train was.

https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/n...age-proves-corbyn-told-truth-traingate-55552/

I bet you can't believe it eh? A train company? With a vested interest in protecting their train profits? Why would the lie to discredit a socialist politician with plans to nationalise trains? But there you have it.
I already knew that. It was supposed to be a dig at Starmer but I obviously didn't express myself very well. :(

O

Didn't miss the point. But I'm glad you ignored mine. I guess that makes it honours even!
This is what I meant in my last post. I had a bit of a nasty dig at you there because political threads bring out the worst in people. Sorry smalltown. We're allowed to disagree and still be friendly and civil, aren't we?

He DOES deserve it and thats the truth.
Lead by example from the front.
No respect for someone in a position of power who has influence over many others - says one thing then does the opposite.
Hypocrite.
He may be a nice man, but his politics stink.
I think that you're probably being a bit too generous with that 'nice man' phrase roofie. The bloke is a ****.

channeling everything at Labour
This is where we're reading the room differently.

100 potential Labour voters aren't going to change the direction of Tory policy. It's not about fighting battles for the Tories, it's about winning concessions for the left if you want their vote.

Losing your vote is fine, you won't vote tory and if it gains a vote in the middle you've been replaced. It also means the toris are one down too, so it's a win.

As per the question on the 14points thread the other day:

People don't vote lib dems as the centre alone cannot win enough seats
Hang on, which is it? The left aren't needed but the centre can't win? Make your mind up...

Self proclaimed lefties doing the work of Tory shills or Tory shills proclaiming themselves lefties...

Funny old world innit?

I'm not very good at this whole staying away from political threads and being civil thing, am I?
I meant personal about Sturmer (!)
He doesnt need us to call him anything derogatory - he does it without opening his mouth!

Footballer Marcus Rashford has launched a book club to get disadvantaged children reading more.

The England and Manchester United striker has teamed up with publisher Macmillan Children's which will donate 50,000 books.
They will be distributed in more than 850 primary schools across England and Scotland through children's food charity Magic Breakfast.
Rashford, 23, has campaigned to tackle child hunger and was awarded an MBE.

The aim of the book club is to encourage reading for pleasure among children who do not have access to books at home.
A survey by the National Literacy Trust in 2019 showed that 383,775 children do not own a single book.

Rashford said: "For too long, the joy of reading has been restricted by whether or not a family has the contingency budget to purchase books.
"The children who often miss out are those on free school meals and users of breakfast clubs, who more than likely need fiction, and non-fiction, to escape reality from time to time.

"We haven't been affording these children the option of reading for fun, but that changes today.
"Everyone is aware of my experiences with breakfast club - it brightened up the start of my day, it stabilised the school day for me, allowed me to engage in reading and allowed me to form life-long friendships."

Rachael Anderson, head of schools at Magic Breakfast, said: "We know children at our partner schools will be delighted to have a Marcus' Book Club book of their own to take home and keep, and this will help inspire a new generation of children to discover the joy of reading."

The book club will launch in June 2021 with the illustrated time travel adventure A Dinosaur Ate My Sister, written by Pooja Puri and illustrated by Allen Fatimaharan.

I was just referring to me calling Starmer a **** there roofie. I should just stick to making silly posts on none political threads. I just get really peed off that I'm the one who is supposed to compromise and throw away everything that I believe in and vote for a turd in turds clothing like Starmer because people think that the only way that the labour party can beat the Tory party is by becoming them. What would be the point of that? We get more like America every day.

I agree.

A politician who sacrifices his principles to obtain power has no principles at all.

Any man who climbs into bed with the establishment, will never be a leader of change and betterment for the many, but a bulwark to protect the privileged few.

If that was aimed at me or scrote then you can stick it up your **** mate.
Love you too sweetie.

It's just an observation. When you read the origin of these things do you stop to think who's interest it is in to repeat it? I get that it is a little hypocritical but did you expect him never to fly again? The Corbyn experiment is over it didn't work, more than anything through lies and sound bites repeated with relish by those of the centre left, so now the left of the left are doing the Tory's work for them. Is that not hypocritical too? The most important thing for me is to get the Tories out, that will not be achieved by parroting their soundbites for them. So when you are fed this stuff maybe just shrug and let it go. There will be a time when we may need to question Starmer's "leadership", as the country emerges from a pandemic is not the time, they are understandably popular at the moment. We can go to the pub, we can go shopping in Primark and see our friends again, hurrah. There will be a time when this is over when we will judge, THAT is when we need an effective opposition, led by an effective leader. If Starmer fails then, judge him on his failure not on him flying to Edinburgh instead of taking the train, it's trivial.

Kisses to you as well mate. I already said upthread that I don't want to fall out with anyone over politics so sorry if I came across as a bit aggressive there. I just see things differently to you. Probably because I have a bum for a face and that means that I only have the one eye. There was certainly an appetite for Corbyn's labour in 2017 because they surprised the hell out of the press and half of their own MPs who'd been actively working against him by getting more votes then any previous leader had since Blair's first landslide. I don't believe that that just evaporated over two years. The last election was all about Brexit. Labour tried to do the only thing that they could by appealing to both sides of the divide but unfortunately a lot of the public are as thick as pig **** and that was too complicated for them to understand. Starmer has already failed. Look at the polls and the way that he's gone back on every single one of the ten pledges that got him elected. I say it on every one of these political threads that I'm stupid enough to get involved in but the only good thing about Starmer is that he isn't Jess Phillips. Things could always be worse.

Edit: And there was that ridiculous lib dem woman too, wasn't there? I can't even remember her name. She was hilarious in the debates but she did a fair bit of damage to the labour party too. Her entire pitch was 'I think that good things are good and I'm in favour of them but bad things are bad and I really don't like those but Jeremy Corbyn is the devil incarnate and he WILL eat your children if you don't vote for me' And then they set up a fraudulent website about strategic voting and sent out a load of leaflets that were full of lies too. I was so pleased when she lost her seat.

🤦‍♂️ groan not this again Andy.

I see why the logic of triangulating appeals to people. It's just that it doesn't work in practice. The tory votes gone up in each of the last 5 or so elections. But they haven't been moving towards the centre, they're getting more and more right wing. Labour have gained seats in 1 election of the last 6. That was 2017, the election that was their biggest shift to the left compared to the one before it.
The Tories have moved right as the voters have moved right (maybe some of those temporarily with Brexit), all the while labour went left with JC.

As the voters were walking away from Labour they didn't even try and chase them, they turned around and walked in the opposite direction.

Like I say though, I'm not against labours policies, I've not been since and including Blair, as anything is better than the tories, but I realise if you go too far left you lose the middle or those that shift right.

Like I said before, those in the middle are worth two votes, as every one you gain, it's one lost from the other side.

Labour should be totally tactical, anything in order to win, but they've been operating in a dreamworld, thinking the UK will come left to them, it won't and certainly wasn't going to in JC's time.

Then in 2017 Corbyn increased his count of Scottish Labour seats by 600%
That can't be right BBG :ROFLMAO:;) Andy's just said Scotland was lost because of Corbyn. Not sure how he managed to do that as a backbencher while Miliband was leader but apparently that's the case.

Those that enabled JC, those pushing the party left, lost them the seats, as well as those that came before him. The one that came after hasn't even had an election yet, but a lot of the damage is irreparable.

The trend for labour in Scotland has been down for a long time, something needs to change and Corbyn and those that enabled him wasn't doing it. They needed to get Scotland back, and fast, and they just didn't and not the SNP are just getting stronger and stronger.

I'm not overly concerned with the SNP mind, as they will at least hopefully do what is right for Scotland, which the Tories would not and they're also unlikely to side with the Tories. The problem with it, is that if the SNP get their indyref and they get out, then Labour will need to shift miles right to get any sort of influence in Enlgand again. I don't want that, but if the left of labour don't get real, that's where we're heading, as mathematically and tactically there needs to be some centre movement, quick.
