some pretty woeful players have managed to get a cap for England, see Michael Ricketts, Anthony Gardner, Zat Knight, Jake Livermore, Gavin McCann, Jay Bothroyd, Paul Konchesky, Joey Barton, Francis Jeffers, Lee Hendrie and Carlton palmer. Probably aload more as well that I just cant remember at the moment.

If we'd got £15 million up front, I'd have thought we'd had Spurs' eyes out.

As it is, I think £12.5 is pretty good business. He may turn into a World beater; from an add-ons point of view, I hope he does, but I'm not holding my breath.

We know he has talent going forward, but defensively he's suspect at championship level. And talent isn't the same as quality; at the moment he clearly really wants to be at SPurs, but that doesn't mean he always will.

He can run at players when given space the rest of his game is average. As a fullback he's not good enough defensively. As a winger he's got no tricks in his box. He can't beat a man from a standing start and struggles to get a yard for a cross.
His agent has clearly been doing a lot of work. Who knows he may do well at spurs. Conte loves a counterattack. I mean he came to the Riverside as a premier League team with a game plan to play on the counter. That's Spence's game really. Tight spaces - rubbish, running at pace good.

Considering we got less for Bamford, Tomlin, Ramirez (I think), stuani, nsue and adomah, we got a very very good deal.

Do you not think a coach as good as Steve Cooper would not have identified his flaws and worked on ironing them out?

I'm pretty certain that Spence is a better player after getting coached by Cooper for 12 months and playing regularly than he was when he first went to Forest.

I notice Steve Cooper moved on to the kid from Liverpool quickly enough, and was happier to spend more guaranteed money to get him.

Too big to iron out, maybe?

We'll never know - Spence certainly had a good season, improved as a player and played pretty much every game so Cooper must have een something in him.

Spence has made it known all along he wanted to go to Spurs so I guess Cooper just went Plan B and signed Williams.

Or perhaps Cooper weighed up Spence & his attitude and just opted out.

Whatever I don't think anyone can seriously doubt that Spence is not a better player than he was 12 months ago?

Didn't seem to put much effort into getting him to sign.
And you can't just wave a magic wand and have flaws go away.
Otherwise traore would be going to city for 100 million this summer rather than Everton for 10.
 
It appears no one else linked followed up their alleged interest. Don't tell me if Ar*enal for example had stumped up 15m and matched the wages offered by Spurs he would have refused to go.

Basically, when it boiled down to it, no one else other than Spurs thought a player with 6 months good championship form, with a whole load of prior baggage, was worth any more than that. And I see their point.
 
12.5milluon plus is 10million more than i was hoping for before he went to forest. Im sue the club are 'delighted'

There was talk of Spurs being interested at £10m when Mourinho was manager at Spurs.

an extra £2.5m doesn’t seem that much to me.
