Speed awareness course.

I’ve done 2, second one during covid on line… make sure you’ve got good internet and reliable connection as they can delist you if you lose connect and still have to pay..

first one, I had some argumentative tvvat and he was pi55ing everyone off, I’m usually quiet in situations like that but the course was boring enough and I wanted to get away, so I snapped and told him to shut up and save his moaning until the end.. a light applause from everyone and not a peep out of him for the rest of the course..

I didn’t know I had it in me 😂

ive done 3, 2 at the tad centre at berwick hills and one on line, they get easier the more you do, chip in with a few answers so youve participated and youve passed.

heres a tip

when they do the heres a picture whats the speed limit questions the road with 1 lane each way with a central reservation is 70

I’ve done two and they were boring and patronising.
Yep completely agree I attended one on a friday afternoon and they wouldn't let you go a second early. What was taught in 3 hours could have been wrapped up in an hour. The course leaders were blokes in their fifties who definitely thought highly of themselves. I am not sure what qualifies you as a speed awareness trainer other than being a harry Enfield know all character.

I’ve done 3 now and have just been offered another, first one was a whole day course about 13 years ago where you went out with a driving instructor on the afternoon who assessed your driving! Very almost got kicked off one due to the patronising **** of a course leader.

I do about 50k miles a year.

I’m not sure they work.

Tip to get it cheaper, book the cheapest location and opt for a video course.
My Mrs did hers last week after I booked her on DORs video course in Lancashire for £88.

Big tip though is to download the zoom app well in advance because it was not straightforward (!)

There will be a need to recruit more staff to run them. According to a report the av speed cameras on the M1 in Northamptonshire are catching record numbers of transgressions in the 50 mph zone and there is reportedly an avalanche of fines being sent out.

I found the one I did last year far from patronising. The guys who ran it seemed to get the contrition and empathised with the group.

It is a 4 hour course than could be covered in under 60 minutes though

I liked the bit about driving at 80-85 mph instead of 70 apparently you got to your destination less than 5 minutes quicker on average
Spotters badge for me Davey C, I did the maths; it's 228 miles from Carrow Road to the Riverside so if I did it at 70mph the journey would take me 3 hours, 15 minutes, 26 seconds and if I did it at 85mph it would take me 2 hours, 40 minutes, 56 seconds. Obviously impossible to do it at those speeds but well, you know, it's thought provoking. Unless it isn't. It isn't. It takes forever to get to the Riverside though and vice-versa but there we go.

Hartlepool Borough Council run the cheapest, £80 I think. Fine is £100 and 3 points meaning higher insurance. Got to agree patronising teacher, who have a captive audience and think they're a comedian.

I got caught by a camera in 2003 doing 35mph going down a steep straight hill which was a 30mph zone. The camera was taken away a couple of years later, I was never offered a speed awareness course.

Drivers have to more careful nowadays on motorways as the speed limits change so quickly. Along 10 miles of the M42 round Birmingham I have known it to change maybe 4 or 5 times. Plus of course the average speed limits.

There nearly always seems to be speed camera van on the A19 between Dishforth and Northallerton - does it really give out tickets or is it like one of those plastic hawks there to scare the pigeons off, in this case slow drivers down?

My Mrs said the instructor was certainly not patronising but that there was a couple of people who thought they knew it all on her course and the instructor handled them very well

I did a course back in August 2020 online as well and he was a very good instructor to be fair to him. No complaints from me
They stretch the course out somewhat but that’s part of the punishment in a sense because if it were less than half your day then it wouldn’t be enough of a deterrent

2 ex coppers ran my course in Middlesbrough. Really patronizing. One was talking about the Highway Code..."Every single one of you has studied and learned the Highway Code!". I put my hand up "I haven't." He said "If you've got a full UK driving licence I can 100% guarantee you've read it." He soon hushed up when I informed him that I learnt to drive and did my test while in the Army, in Germany which got my a German licence and a full UK/HGV licence too.
