Southgate staying on for the Euros

We played well at this World Cup, deserved to beat France and then who knows what would have happened.
I don't think we didn't win because of anything Southgate did (or didn't do).
There is no clear successor and I don't see how moving him out would be a step forward right now.
He was poor as Boro manager (a job he shouldn't have been given back then) but that is a very long time ago now.
I am pleased he is staying on and really hope we win the Euros under him in a little over 18 months.

Another one rewarded for abject failure.
'We gave it a jolly good show' sick of it.
A wealth of talent at his fingertips and we failed at the first real hurdle.
Regardless of how much talent England has, there is something we lack, and have always lacked, and that is the mentality to be winners. The only time we have ever reached the final is as hosts.

Take the two teams who contested today's final. Had an England team gone two down and got outclassed for 80 minutes, there is no way we would have gotten back into the game, rather we would have exited the competition as bloodied and battered soldiers for whom the final game was one too many. France then pulled the same stunt in extra time.

And then onto Argentina. To be so dominant in the first 90 minutes and then lose the lead in the last 10 would, had England been on the pitch, have seen the momentum swing strongly in favour of the team that had just pulled off a great escape. That they lost the lead again in extra time but had the mental tenacity to go on and win the penalty shoot out was very impressive and something we - at the moment - could only dream of.

We can get there though. For much of my life France had won zilch, now their international record dwarfs ours.
