Sweden or possibly Ukraine in last eight in Rome
Then 1 from Holland Denmark Wales or possibly Czech Rep in semi’s at Wembley obviously.
Settle for that if we can win next game.
 
Tbf, now that Spain have been revealed as our would-be opponents had we finished second and them being fresh from handing out a morlae-boosting 5-Nil thrashing at that, it wouldn't have been THAT much of an easier last 16 draw than most likely Germany/Portugal and less likely France would it? Oh, or Hungary of course, but a bloke's allowed to dream...😁
 
Can you imagine the uproar if we get

Hungary in the last 16
Ukraine in the last 8
And then lose to Denmark in the semis 😁

Yes, I feel better now knowing that we didn't miss a trick coming second. Spain will be eliminating Croatia, I feel, after tonight's performance.
 
I've actually concluded that this format is quite flawed. I mean why SHOULD Croatia get an easier game for coming second? If you come second you should play the winner of a group, not the runner-up (that should be our prize for winning it).

Ok, so Spain (best side) have ended up coming second but these tournaments really need to be 16, 32 or 64 teams. I dunno why they're bothering making the world cup 48 teams because they will clearly expand it to 64 as soon as they possibly can.

Listening to the Quickly Kevin podcast and they had a great suggestion emailed to them to spice up the knock out stages, basically the team with the best qualifying record gets to choose who they want to play in the next round. That does away with all this, it's better to finish 2nd or 3rd nonsense.

Because if there are 6 groups distilling down to 16 teams, there will be 6 group winners, 6 group runners up and 4 third place finishers. So any team finishing top of their group will face either a 2nd or 3rd place team. England will play a 2nd place team but with home advantage.

That's just how it is structured.

Ha. I know that! But it’s flawed. There should be 16 or 32 teams.
