Sleeping

I don't think for a moment you would have knowingly done it AET, or course not.
The point is we just don't know.
I am not saying it is easy, but the direction is important to us all.

Holgate years ago I worked at ICI for a couple of years and we were all foced to do a "Managing Stress" course. I like you am very laid back and don't get anxious. However one thing that stuck in my mind from the course, was that for most of us we don't recognise stress, that is why it is so dangerous.

So we are all probably suffering stress and most of us don't realise. Stress will play havoc with your sleep patterns.
I think you make a very good point because I suffered quite severe stress over an extended period at work about 20 odd years ago which resulted in me getting a new job and it was only a couple of years later I realised just how badly it had affected me. I agree it is a dangerous, stealthy sort of thing which creeps up on you.
One thing I have been doing is about 5k of walk every day and it has really helped but I’ve noticed that other things beyond the virus become bigger in my mind than they should - which I think is also a sign of stress.
Despite how I like to see myself, maybe I am a bag of nerves after all...

The take out from this is we are all dealing with things in different ways. The lockdown is tough, for some more than others.
I'm coping right now but my contract ends at the end of the month and it's not exactly busy with new projects out there for some reason. I think it's going to be tough mentally as I search for a job.

I know the lockdown is hard. I really missed not being able to go and see my mum this weekend and I actually miss being in the office and just speaking to people who aren't the other half. We have a long couple of months ahead of us but hopefully things will get better after that. We all just have to hang on

I think we all just get on with it , with the it won’t happen to me I’ll be alright attitude. The second you stop and think about it then it hits you how serious this is. I’m just trying to stay busy and trying not to dwell on what could happen. We can get through this!!

the contract market is tough, I’ve had about three false starts dating back to August last year - what with IR35 and this I now find myself back at square one with no contract and few people hiring. Assuming you don’t find anything then it will allow you chance to do more running and do all those things you never get around to- every cloud and all that. Anyway good luck with the search , hopefully you won’t have too much of a gap!

do you honestly think I would have gone in if I thought I was a risk? Please just don’t. It’s about support. I’m ducking out of this thread now, knew i shouldn’t have mentioned this. **** only knows what to do for the best
Hi AET I just wanted to check you are ok and it sounds like the rest of us you are muddling through which is great news. We should all try and stick to the guidelines where possible as they are for our own good but I appreciate these are trying times for all. Keep up the walking sounds like you are clocking a record number of steps!! Take Care.

Thanks mate. My plan is, if the lockdown is still on, to see if I can get a job in the food supply chain. Delivery driver or some such. Then at least I can be doing something to help whilst I'm out of work.

It's tough - I was in exactly the same boat but managed to get a contract 2 weeks before this shitstorm started - initial 3 months to early June, and the intention was to extend to the end of the year - no idea whether that extension will happen now, but just making the most of 3 months money coming in. It's not ideal working from home, but then everybody who's not in a front line service is having to do that - Skype for Business is a wondrous thing ;)

If I hadn't got this contract, god knows when I would have picked one up - many many months I fear

Don't dip out mate - keep talking / posting. You don't have to respond to any perceived criticism, and there are plenty on here who'll "talk back" if you need / want that

Yes one of mine literally got pulled just before the lockdown, worst timing. I will be out of work for a while longer but there is more to life and I’m just counting my blessings that I am safe and well and have food on the table.Everything else will have to take a back seat for now! There are so many worse off at the minute so I am just appreciating what I do have. Hopefully you get your extension!!
