Sleep problems

Does anyone else on here suffer from insomnia? I've gone the last 2 nights just laid in bed waiting for the alarm to go off at 7am. I do have tinnitus as well, which sis fairly bad. I have tried an ear piece in with "white noise". While it so the 3 of 4 different tinnitus sounds, I find the "white noise" equally annoying :D

On an average night, I might get max 3 hours sleep, the last 2 have been bad. I am seeing a nurse tomorrow, but I don't just want 2 weeks of sleeping pills, as I been there before and the insomnia returns days later.

Anyone had a cure for it? Or methods to help sleep? I meditate while in bed so my head isn't like a washing machine anymore, so at least I am "resting"

Cheers your friendly always something wrong with him lately FMTTM member :D
I'm a full on insomniac!! I reckon I get about 4 or 5 hours sleep on a good day (night).

I'm so jealous of people who can just lay down and nod off on demand!!

I'd love sleeping tablets but I'd be frightened that I wouldn't wake up for work and get the kids sorted for school.

Do you drink? Even just light boozing can affect sleep massively.
If I’m having a bit of time off the sauce, the improved sleep is probably the biggest thing I notice.

Poor sleep quality when we get older can be caused by a number of reasons.

Im sure I have ADHD so my brain lights up when I go to bed. Brown noise helps, i sometimes listen to a podcast and switch it off then I’m dropping off.

Excercise routine also helps and a good diet with little sugar in it

When we get older our Test levels drop, this causes Poor sleep quality. It might be worth looking into that, TRT is available now if your T levels are low

I’m currently on a course of hypnotherapy for some other stuff, but he gave me a 45 minute sleep recording which I never sleep through, and I’ve not slept better for years. If you want me to send via WhatsApp, just pm me, and I’ll forward it
I would be interested in listening to this Borotommo

I read a lot on the internet about " Brain Training" yourself to be unaware of your tinnitus. No cost just info available free on the internet. Teaches you to stop worrying and the tinnitus fades away like the ticking of a clock. Still there, but virtually never hear it though. Btw, I'm deaf, so the tinnitus was particularly annoying.
Good luck .

There is a technique or perhaps a trick you can play on yourself which reduces your perception of tinnitus. Search for it on the internet "tinnitus finger drumming technique" which works for a while for me (some people reckon it cures them)

I use this - works a treat for me!

The more you don’t sleep the more you worry and become anxious and it’s a viscous circle. Doc prescribed me mirtazapine to treat sleep anxiety. Taken at night because it also has sedative effect, but it’s not a sleeping pill as such, so you’re not restricted to just a few weeks of taking them. Took a while but found it really beneficial.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned sleep apnea. In North America many peiople who are diagnosed as having sleep apnea have macines called CPAP's. I have read that there are 35 million CPAP machines in use in the USA. They do not work for everyone. They certainly take some getting used to and many people give up on them. At the same time there are many users who say they have transformed their lives for the better, friends of mine among them. My wife was recently diagnosed as having sleep apnea after an overnight stay in a sleep clinic at the suggestion of her GP. Some nights it works very well, others less so and she is still adjusting to it. Here is a link, just one but it is representative of many others that you can find via Google. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/cpap

I don't, I quit a few weeks ago for good.

I have done a lot of things suggested on this thread and appreciate people taking time to reply and for being honest about their own problems. Going to see the nurse this morning and will come back and reread this again.

I'm fit, health, drink 1 coffee a day, go to bed at 11am each night, drink lots of water, exercise ever day (even just a walk). But I have depression, that mixed with lack of sleep are a lovely match made in heaven :D
