Sky just said new Sunlun manager IS Tony Mowbray

They're utterly deluded. Read a thread on their board where one of them said Neil leaving feels like Darren Bent all over again, but said at least Bent left for a bigger club, only for some of them to disagree.

Of course Villa are a bigger club, it shouldn't even be up for debate.

Golden boot winner in a team that finished 7th is pretty amazing. Let’s be honest we’d be banging on about that till the end of days if it was one of our strikers.

They're an entertaining bunch.

As big as villa 🙈🙈🙈

That’s not what he said though as no argument at all Phillips personal career was phenomenal.

He said Phillips gave more to sunlun fans than all our stars combined which is just not true.

We get this every single time
I’m not bothered how much he spent but I am bothered about people trying to rewrite history and say we played good football under him.
There are a couple of ‘knowns’
1. He didn’t spend a lot
2. We were shocking, really really shocking……during his time here
I didn't say anything about the football we played under him Finny. Rather I said he didn’t spend much and I’m not sure who else, under those circumstances, could have done a better job.

I’d be the first to agree we were soft under Mowbray. But there were some good moments, that were ultimately followed by bad moments. The bad inevitably meant he had to leave.

But it’s not rewriting history to say he had a VERY difficult job to do at the Boro.

To be fair to Sunderland and Kevin Phillips (that hurt), they finished 7th in the premier league 2 seasons running but didn't get into Europe. If the same combination of cup winners had happened when we finished 7th we would never have had that unforgettable UEFA Cup run.

They were definitely unlucky for a while (still funny when it happened though)

Sorry - didn’t mean to say you were rewriting history. That was in reference to the earlier post.
And, I do agree - he had a tough gig.
For obvious reasons he gets ‘mitigation’ for his performance as manager.

I remember at the time thinking the appointment would only end in tears (I’m no soothsayer, by the way, managerial appointments usually do)

I wanted his legacy to be as the ‘magnificent player‘ he was.

His legacy as a player remains unaltered I’m sure no Boro fan would question that.

As a manager he had a very difficult hand here. As far as I am concerned, top player, good manager but more importantly top guy.

When did "all our stars combined" come into it?

You can win any debate you want of you're allowed to invent what your adversary says. Donald Trump got to be President off the back of that approach.

Yep. Some of the comments way over the top. Some of the comments I have seen them write about Defoe have been disgusting considering what he did for Bradley Lowery and his family
Some of them refer to him as "Mongbray". They really are classless.

Tony, you can do so much better.

Loads on Twitter saying their next direct debit for their season tickets is due this week and they're going to cancel when Mogga gets it.

Well they can **** up their own credit rating then

I really don’t get the stupid **** hate towards him ? He finished 8th with a Blackburn side that performed above expectations last season . Nice of them to belittle Blackburn too, Blackburn actually were premier league champions in the 90s, all the while Sunderland went up and down like a yo-yo

Saying he’s a dinosaur implies he’s a long ball manager when that certainly isn’t the case

They’ve just been promoted and avoiding relegation constitutes a good season for them.

As I said , their cheaper prices creating higher attendances , over inflates where their fans think they are in the footballing world
