Sir Lewis Hamilton

His success is contributing to the continued employment of over 1,000 people in the UK. Why would anybody object to that?
Arguments about his tax contributions are really quite tedious. It's the proliferation of dishing out top honours to sports stars over the past 15-20 years that has, along with a few other things, completely undermined any integrity or credibility the system once had.
Completely agree, and the coincidence of contributing to the Tory party.

Fantastic driver, fully deserved. I never thought I'd see anyone surpass Schumacher. for it to be the first proper BAME driver in the F1 is fantastic and hopefully aids diversity in the sport for years to come.

My argument is far simpler than that, if you financially domicile outside the UK you do not receive any recognition.

Nice to see one of our out and out left wingers supporting tax avoidance.

I assume you support Starbucks , Vodafone, Amazon , Facebook and Microsoft in their avoidance schemes.

So what about those that reside in countries where the Queen is still sovereign? They not allowed a knighthood?

You do also know that people can live in the UK and avoid tax right? Or are you suggesting that anyone in line for an honour has to be vetted first?

Hamilton deserves his knighthood just as much as any other sportsman has.

Don’t like the sport at all
He is however, at the top of the tree in the world, has been for some time and he is British therefore as entitled as anyone to British awards.

A knighthood - Why not? there are no rules, largely nepotism and deserves (or not) the same as many others at the top of their game.

Get in there Lewis! Has the best car yes, but when he has to deliver he generally does.
As for him living abroad, receiving a Knighthood, paying fair share of tax etc etc. It all smacks of inverse snobbery, politics of envy.

As I have said previously in the thread I’m not into F1 but obviously keep up to date with the news on Hamilton etc and what he has won. Also read the threads on here about him. What I would like to know is how come most threads turn into a bashing about him in regards to paying tax?

Jealousy, racism, entitlement, snobbery?

Take your pick.

The greatest British sportsman of all time. He deserves ever honour and award coming his way.

If you are referring to me , none. Read my posts good luck to anyone who makes a bundle, by your logic I should be jealous of Bill Gates:, as for racism quite a nasty slur but nothing surprised me on here, as fir snobbery I can't work that one out.

Fir snobbery when you have an artificial Christmas tree and your neighbours have a bigger, real tree.

Love him hes a superb driver but he doesn't live here and for that reason alone I'm out.
So then I suppose you opposed the awarding of an MBE to Vernon Unsworth, the British guy who helped with the Thai cave rescue, on the basis that he spends most of his time living in Thailand?

If I was referring to you I'd let you know about it believe me. Do you seriously contend that racism does not play a part in people's dislike of Lewis Hamilton and Marcus Rashford, on this board and elsewhere?
