Sinusitis - Anyone here struggle with it?

I suffer from rhinitis and always have done, I think its similar.

The only remedy, in my opinion, is to pop an anti-histamine the second you sense an attack might be on its way. If you leave it a second longer, you're phucked for a few days.

Me....I got told to use beconase as its the only over the counter stuff you can get that has steroids in it...and I bought myself a nasal rinse too....omg the amount of cr@p that comes out when you blow your nose after is ridiculous...and my ears pop something rotten

Suffered badly 50 years ago and Mucron tablets were the only thing that eased the pain, but I don't think they're available today. It seemed to disappear with age, say from 30 onwards. Unfortunately my daughter started to suffer in her 30s and it got so bad that she needed an operation to remove two bones at the top of her nose. Unfortunately that hasn't worked and the headaches are back.

I was in France and thought I had terrible toothache and that was my sinuses I ended up speaking with a pharmacist and after using a nasal spray and painkillers, I was ok within a day.

That was the first time I had suffered with my sinuses and never really had headaches before. I do suffer from hayfever and as atypical_boro said, I can control any issues by taking a hayfever tablet and using a nasal spray.

Ever since the pandemic started, I get bad sinusitis about 4 times a year now

I'm talking inside of the nose swollen, mucus, totally full of it

Never used to get it before Covid-19

Mines once a year for about 8 - 12 weeks since then .
Begins just before Christmas, has just stopped as quick as it starts.
Spending an hour each morning clearing it out, it's basically egg white, until I can stop mouth breathing

Coincidentally I've had exactly the same problem, seems to pick up a lot more virus' since I had COVID a few years ago and sinusitis always seems too be a lingering symptom.

I picked something up when we were away at New Year that I couldn't shake off and I got it again last week, with sinusitis the main and lasting symptom..

I'm trying a Neti pot, which basically flushes the sinuses out with a saline solution, loads on Amazon, might be worth a try?

I've had it for about 11 years, and still suffer daily. I've had surgery twice. The first time was in 2014, when I just had infection after infection. The surgery cleared it, and I was fine until about three years ago, when it came back with a bang. Headaches daily, and the feeling of being infected/ill. Antibiotics help for a short while, but it soon comes back. I had surgery again, much more extensive this time, and I've seen no benefit since. CTI scans show I still have a high level of inflammation, but no obvious reasons why. I'm on daily nasal rinse (use a NeilMed bottle and premade salt/bicarb sachets - bought on Amazon) and use drops of a prescribed steroid in that wash. I'm on Amitryptaline for chronic pain, and now on a 3 month course of Gabapentin to try and turn off the nerve (spasms) which my GP thinks might be causing the pain and inflammation.
It's a horrible condition, as you wake up every morning you realise it's just another day of pain and discomfort.

I feel for anyone who suffers. I would try and get your GP to refer you to an ENT specialist, to get a scan to see if they can identify a physical problem. The surgery is fulching horrible, but if you have blocked sinus cavities, it may be the best route.

Good luck

I had issues with my sinuses for years and it used to make me feel exhausted. Felt constantly unwell. The problems were caused by a deviated septum. I had surgery to correct it 4 years ago and it's helped massively.

Sorry to read these accounts folks. Physical issues aside, keep in mind possibility of environmental drivers eg. dust, cleaning chemicals, allergy to soft furniture, mould spores, bedding, poor ventilation, bathroom n kitchenwaste stack and local waste pipe / bad air leaking into home. I was ill in halls at uni years ago with bad sinusitis for 6 or 7 months, GP treatments did nothing and I later discovered in my room I had a cracked greywater waste system ventilation riser pipe behind a wood panel. There was no major particular strong odour giving it away just the constant exposure, it must have been that as I never had issues like that before or since.

I have rhinitis and use a spray Dymista

But for the times I also get sinusitis i use a Neil Med nasal flush and it really helps! Amazing what can get stored up there!

You can get them from Boots and make sure you boil the water as on the instructions.

Had it bad until my early 20s. Cleared up when I moved away from Teesside. That was early 70s.

I used to get it every time I got run down and got so fed up I went to the doctor's. He told me the tubes are permanently inflamed and so they can get congested and infected easily. He said the only way to stop this was a 6 month course of antihistamines. I'll admit I felt fobbed off (especially as it was winter and I associated these tablets with the hayfever season) but I did as I was told and completed the course. It worked and I probably managed 15 years without sinus problems.

I have to say, the one benefit of blocked sinuses is that amazing feeling when you blow your nose and it all starts to come away!

On a lighter note, there was also somthing of a rhinitis spike on Teesside that season when Boro stank the Prem out wi Kranky and his pals.

I had never (knowingly) suffered with sinusitis, until I had a bout of covid in November and I’ve since had sinusitis twice, mild cases I’d say - excess congestion, blocked nose, teeth and jaw ache, head aches and a feeling of pressure where the sinuses are. Anyway, on both occasions I found ‘Ortivine sinusitis relief 0.1% nasal spray Xylometazoline Hydrochloride’ helped, particularly with the blocked nose/congestion side of things. As I say though, I only had it pretty mildly.

Since I had my nose broken 38 years ago (hard lad at school picked on the grey boy and obliterated my nose), I've lived with face pain and headaches daily. Nothing works and I put lipsill up my nose at night, had several operations, use saline rinse, no joy. It is what it is now.

Had similar symptoms the last year or so leading to dreadful headache and toothache.
I've taken to use this bit of kit - you use it to massage the sinuses to help drain them. Need to just read up on how to do it. It's pretty straightforward tho.

Won't work overnight but, after doing it daily for a few weeks - really felt the difference.
Never looked back
