Shoaib Bashir.

A hell of a spot from Stokes. Prior to his call up, he apparently watched a highlights reel of some of his bowling on Social Media and sent it to Brendon McCullum as he felt he believed he had the attributes and skill set to be a real threat. The rest is history, as they say.

For such a young and inexperienced lad, he’s been very impressive, in India and the last test.

Long may it continue.

Yet not first choice at Somerset. Needs to get a County sorted.
Not really... Central contracts and all that mean England's regulars only play a max of 3 county games each season. It would be a hard school having to learn in test cricket but he looks up to it. Massive hand apparently...

Has he been given a central contract then?

Yes the highlights reel was him bowling at, amongst others, ex Captain Cook (Alistair, not James) His height and hence extra bounce he get was some of the potential they saw in him. To take a 5 fer in England to win a test is a decent accomplishment at an early stage in his career.

re the county stuff, he was loaned to Worcs for a month to get some overs in ahead of the test series, played a couple of T20 and a 4 day game. Rashid managed a good Intl career whilst dodging games for Yorks!

Loved the way he varied his pace trapping the batsman LBW, then drifting one in and getting it to turn on a relatively flat pitch.

Hope the media don't put too much pressure on the lad and let him develop his bowling.

He looks a class act.

And he'll only get better with more coaching. Central contract if he does well this summer, I hope.

We've struggled since Swan. Moeen was decent and Rashid a good one day and T20 player. Hopefully Bashir will continue to improve and get more revs on the ball and improve his control. Good start to his career and best option England currently have in this department. Ahmed needs to bowl and bat a lot better in county cricket to even start challenging him.

Both Ahmed and Shoaib look great prospects, a leggy and an off spinner who can both attack. Ahmed can bat a bit as well. Future looks good in the spinner position, Hartley looked a decent hand as well as a third option.

Really pleased to see him this weekend. I was at Lords for all 1 hours of Day 3, so didn't get a chance to see him, but I was at Trent Bridge this weekend and he bowled beautifully. We were commenting at Lords how he must be pinching himself at his rise to prominence, but he looks like being a hunch that pays off. Didn't look out of place at all. There were a lot of jokes made about being selected for his high release point in the winter and I hadn't appreciated just how high it was from TV - he is a very tall lad which makes him that little bit different. Also looks a very quick learner. Fingers crossed for him that he can nail down the place.

Will Jacks has also taken a test 5fer. This current team have a ridiculous record with bowlers on their debuts;
Jacks, Ahmed, Atkinson, Bashir, Tongue, Hartley all recently got debut 5fers off the top of my head!
