Shamima Begum

At fifteen I was not the perfectly reasonable and equable soul I am today. If the memory is accurate, I was a little schitt.
Fortunately, the opportunities for such schittiness to manifest were limited to scrawling graffiti on the school toilet walls.

I've read both sides of the arguments and it's a very complex - and emotive - case.

Social media is already awash with the right wing knuckle draggers celebrating, proudly proclaiming if an appeal is over ruled by the ECHR we should leave that that too ......🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I don't know, I'm not fully getting the "grooming" bit; she was old enough to know what she was getting into - and actively joined in. But, we don't know her maturity, what exactly happened in the months leading up to her running off and indeed what exactly happened to her in Syria. We've heard her side and various reports .....but sure there is a lot more to it.

But, she is British so is our problem. Jail her for life, whatever, but I think stripping her of her citizenship sets a dangerous precedent with the Tories.

Neither was I. Some would say I could be a little b***r at times.
But then I didn't go and join a failed terrorist state and take part in atrocious acts against fellow humans.

I don't really agree that 15 is old enough to know what she was getting into. If you think back to that age you think you know everything and you don't really appreciate the intentions of others, and you haven't fully formed a degree of empathy that you gain through life experience.

You can apply the "knowing what they were getting into" to many forms of grooming.

I think she & her friends knew exactly what she was doing & getting into.
Removing citizenship, if she had duel then it is a valid option.
Yes she was young, though age itself shouldn't be mitigation for her actions.

Why is it a valid option? Why should a country she didn't reside in and didn't visit have to take responsibility?

Groomed. Left the UK at 15.
An age where you'll can't vote, have sex or drive a car so how on earth should she be seen as responsible for her actions to the extent of being stripped of her citizenship.
OK so at 15 you don't know what the f%ck a terrorist organisation is and everything it stands for.
But at 16 you know what each political party is about and what they stand for , and therefore according to Labour should be able to vote .......mmmmmmm
