Schwarzer - Christmas Cards at Boro

One of the top replies on is from someone asking Schwarzer if he ever has anything nice to say about Boro. It might be wrong but I do feel that despite being with us so long that he’s generally quite negative about the club.

He was a bit of a miserable git at times with the kids wanting autographs after his warmups too.

Agree. Best I’ve ever seen for Boro but does take the shine away a little every time he talks about us.

On the other hand, he once said 'hello' to me in the street in Harrogate :)

I get what you mean but he did eleven years with Boro and played 446 games. He was a top-class goalkeeper across that time. And yet he was regularly criticised by supporters, booed on at least two occasions I can remember - one for having the temerity to be a much better goalkeeper than Mark Crossley - and left without a testimonial ever being as much as hinted at by anyone around the club.

Do you not remember the noises and murmurs inside the stadium, and general stick he used to get whenever the ball was played back to him or he came out for a cross. I fully see why he may not be gushing with praise for Boro tbh. Some of our supporters are absolute morons. Singing Zenden used to be sh*te, signing we’ve only got one player to Tuncay, booing Schwarzer when he was brought back in for Crossley. Absolute morons.

He was the best ‘keeper I’ve seen play for us, we’ve had nobody anywhere near as good since and are unlikely to have one anywhere near as good any time soon imo.
He was definitely a great player for us. But I don't honestly think his beef is with the fans.

He once blanked me coming out of Morrissons in Harrogate when I asked if he was ok? . Up to him as in private time but a swift ok would be fine . He was on his own as well... bit miffed at the time but still rate him as one of our best keepers (after Platt) and 11 years at the club shows loyalty and settled in the area

He's the best keeper I've ever seen play for us, without doubt. The snappiness of his reply on Twitter seems to suggest the supporter posing the question had touched a nerve.

He was far more commonly cheered, revered and loved by the vast majority of supporters. He's a professional footballer who knows how fans work, loud minority of idiots etc.

Quality aside, I think he's a miserable git. He earnt a good coin playing for us and was more than happy to play games when it came to negotiating contracts. Perhaps just a little more warmth or respect towards us would be nice.

Schwarzer attended our Play Off Final against Norwich as a fan, & I remember reading an article after he left where he said his son was still a Boro fan?
Maybe it's just his general attitude then. I supposed not everyone is a gushy happy chappy.

I take things personally when it comes to boro, for obvious reasons!

I'd have loved him to have had a testimonial.

He was a great keeper for us and played in some of our greatest games. I’m sure he has fond memories of his time at the Boro, it’s where he spent his best years. Perhaps he gets a bit prickly with the passive aggressive response to a fairly innocent anecdote?

I am a right miserable sod and this would not change if I was in the public eye. If anything I would be worse.

I do not care how warm or friendly the players are, obviously a bonus when they are brilliant with the fans but ultimately as Roy Keane says, just do your job. Schwarzer undeniably did a great job for us.
