Maybe, but I think it’s decades away rather than months, personally. This will DEFINITELY be the Saudis objective but will open the door for UAE, QATAR to further pollute our national game.
Maybe European football is dead and ultimately a world league will be the end game.
Definitely not months but you can see the way things are panning out. I bet there are numerous takeovers from Saudis, Qataris etc in the next couple of years. Weren't Dubai based Sheikhs trying to buy Liverpool last year?Maybe, but I think it’s decades away rather than months, personally.
I was trying to give an example of the next few (potential) CL winners. Yes, their first port of call is trying to create/establish their own league, but their end game must be to join the world's greatest club competition and if Israeli teams compete in it, why not teams from the Arabian peninsula? With the potential sponsorship they can provide, you think UEFA will worry about geographical niceties?3 x Al Hilal and 2 x Barcelona?
Don't understand.
I think it's possible, yes. I'll ignore the snarky put down.So you think that this time next year Saudi teams will be preparing for a CL campaign? What have you been smoking all night?
You honestly think it’s possible for 2024? I would share your concerns about a longer term threat, but those kind of changes don’t happen 12 months out, there isn’t even talk about it (except on this thread) let alone it being agreed/approved by UEFA. It’s impossible.I think it's possible, yes. I'll ignore the snarky put down.
Fully agree. Won’t happen in 2024 though.Definitely not months but you can see the way things are panning out. I bet there are numerous takeovers from Saudis, Qataris etc in the next couple of years. Weren't Dubai based Sheikhs trying to buy Liverpool last year?
Our national game is in danger
So why do Israeli teams compete in a UEFA competition? Ah that will be because the Arab league wouldn't let them play with them.. They initially formed the Asian FC in 1954 and played Asian competitions for 20 years until Iran, Kuwait and other Muslim countries kicked up a fuss, so they played friendlies vs European teams (in the main, until they eventually joined UEFA in early 1990s.and if Israeli teams compete in it, why not teams from the Arabian peninsula?
Understand mate. Not that likely in my opinion thoughI was trying to give an example of the next few (potential) CL winners. Yes, their first port of call is trying to create/establish their own league, but their end game must be to join the world's greatest club competition and if Israeli teams compete in it, why not teams from the Arabian peninsula? With the potential sponsorship they can provide, you think UEFA will worry about geographical niceties?
This is it.The only way it will happen is of its part of a breakaway super league.
It can't be part of UEFA, under which the current champions league is played, for obvious geographical reasons.
But it will add to the impetus for a breakaway league and if bet my house on this being the Saudis plan.
Similar to LIV in golf.
