Saudi teams in the Champions League...

I can’t see it happening any time soon. Anyway, I don’t really care what happens to some of these greedy clubs, I wish now they’d been allowed to form their closed shop European league and would just disappear from domestic football.

This is it.

They cant join it so will just create something bigger and hope to tempt the likes of Real, Barca, Man City etc and then we will end up with the Super League again.
I've no doubt they will try that but I still think it would fail. PGA golf and domestic football are two different beasts.

Man City fans welcome all the dodgy money to help them beat Liverpool and Man United to titles, I don't think they'd support much beyond that if it meant sacrificing everything else.

The only way it will happen is of its part of a breakaway super league.

It can't be part of UEFA, under which the current champions league is played, for obvious geographical reasons.

But it will add to the impetus for a breakaway league and if bet my house on this being the Saudis plan.

Similar to LIV in golf.
Can’t see them having the success LIV has had.

There will be millions of ordinary football fans mobilised, plus governments and legendary footballers, possibly fifa too. It would also have uefa backing and would see players banned from playing World Cup and euros

Israel have teams in the UEFA competitions don't they?
Some geographers actually believe Europe and Asia shouldn't be categorised as two separate continents at all. Whilst I can see why we do it for practical purposes, we do seem to do it partly on religious/cultural grounds. Israel doesn't really have a natural 'home' in that sense.

Don't Kazakhstan play in the Euros?

Israel is in UEFA though, after spending nearly 20 years without a confederation following their expulsion from the AFC, and being invited in to UEFA the 90s.

Saudi Arabia is a big player in the AFC, and will remain so.

UEFA is also quite opposed to the current Saudi events, so I doubt they'd be willing to compromise.

I'm sure FIFA will be happy to aid them though, especially with their attempts to market the Club World Cup.

I know that KSA, Egypt and Greece were bidding jointly to host the WC in 2030 but I believe it has fallen through.
KSA Makes Qatar look like Ibiza.

Would never work

I actually think 2030 will go to the 'Iberia/Morocco and random inclusion of war-torn Ukraine' bid which rolls off the tongue. Ticks the Africa box again and other than Russia there hasn't actually been a WC in Europe since 2006.

Ultimately the clubs (and behind them the players) will decide this.

The super league idea hasn't gone away, theyve just ducked below the parapit until they think they can have another bite at it. The emergence of Saudi in this makes the whole thing more likely.

Not nailed on, just more likely.

Wonder how many priority points I’ll need for Al Hilal away in 2026 and will Boro run a travel club bus?

It’s not just the clubs and players. Ask Gerald Ratner, disenfranchised customers will have their input too. If you disenfranchise your customer base, you are done, if you treat them like idiots, give them something they don’t want, your business is stuffed

I agree - it's far from certain that a super league will ever happen, but there is a real chance it may and that has become more likely due to the Saudi money.

The fact that so many clubs, including EPL representatives, were onboard with this initial tells you that there is real interest in it.

Hopefully it will never happen.
