Sam Greenwood

He's probably just about worth his £1.5m agreed fee.

I can see why Leeds were happy to loan him out.

He's a Championship player, of there is no doubt.

Is he a top Championship player? Jury is still out.

Lathe seemed to be having a bit of a go at him when they were going off at HT.
I thought it was maybe about that pass Greenwood delayed for too long and then Lathe messed up the shot/cross from close but wide.
If Greenwood had passed straight away Lathe could have taken the ball in his stride more centrally.

I don't think we'll be signing him.

He might be worth £1.5m, he isn't worth whatever stupid contract Leeds have given him (and which will apparently increase if they go up).

The only scenario we keep him in IMO is if he has a cracking second half to the season and we go up.

If the season ended now, then it would be a no from me, he has been too inconsistent, however it's not even halfway over, so let's see if he improves until the loan deal ends.

I don't think Leeds would loan a player to a Championship rival, if they rated him, I also think when our injury list improves, he may be struggling for game time, but again let's wait and see what happens.

We are in a win win situation, if he improves then we could have a bargain, if he doesn't, then send him back to the dirties.

I've said it in a couple of threads, at Sunderland youth system he was an out 9, did so well that Arsenal came in and nicked him, first 6 months they used him as a 9, but gradually converted him to a 10, he did ok but didn't pull any trees up, questions about his attitude, homesickness, they let him go to Leeds, where again he was used as a 10, not athletic enough to play as a 9. Bielsa came in and converted him to an 8 in Bielsa's system, he did well enough get in the first team squad/started several games in the premier league, so clearly has got plenty of talent.
My belief just looking at him in games, is he thinks he should be playing as a 9 or 10, his first thought is always 'how can I score' which leads him to delaying making decisions, getting caught on the ball, not seeing relatively simple progressive passes. Until he or someone gets him out of this mentality then he won't progress as an 8. Trouble for him is I think Carrick sees Crooks, Mcgree and Morgan well ahead of him as a 10, for me I wouldn't sign him permanently, not for the fee & wages that he would demand.

LL made 2 different runs which Greenwood ignored then as he was delaying to avoid offside GW passed it late and wide.

He''s being played on the left but obviously doesn't like it there because he' a always drifting into the middle. This causes problems when the opposition get the ball because he is out of position defensively and Engel gets exposed.

This is what I posted the other day on the same subject and my mind hasn't been changed yet:

I think he's *****. He is a rubbish striker being played left wing because he doesn't have the strength or pace to play up front on his own. In any of the positions behind the striker he's massively ineffectual. He's rubbish with the ball, makes the wrong decision almost every time, poor passer, holds on to the ball far too long, dribbles into dead ends and loses the ball. He occasionally gets in the right place at the right time to score the odd goal and his free kick against Leicester was great but I don't think those moments are enough to justify his inclusion.

Happy to see this post blow up in my face but I just don't see it with him. He's technically a good footballer so he could be good but no pace, strength or decision making lets him down.

Great work reposting this.👏👏👏
I mean if anyone doubted for a minute you know f*** all about football, you've gone above and beyond, quoting yourself to make sure it's clear and obvious.
Take a bow son, take a bow.

Yeh, because one match makes a career.

He hasn't played well in just one match. For a 21 year old who had one senior goal to his name before this season, he's having a very good season. He was very good against Cardiff, Sunderland, Birmingham, Leicester, Plymouth, Norwich and today. He's scored vitally important goals and provided assists. There's only Crooks in our team who has more goal contributions than him.
For you to write off a young player wearing our shirt who's actually made a very positive impression as s*** is both ignorant and obnoxious.
