Saltburn

A good friend of mine has created a cairn up by the charm bracelet over the last year or two, carrying rocks up from Saltburn on an almost daily basis. It's a cracking spot and one I visit on a regular basis whilst out running.

I also know the guy who puts the messages on the cliffs and he does a lot of good work up there and has helped countless people who have been 'struggling' up on the cliffs. I know how frustrated he is that every time he puts a slate message down, someone comes along and breaks it.. senseless but that's what some people are unfortunately.
He was volunteering at Marshall Drive (Brotton) parkrun on Saturday - giving us newbies instructions and encouraging us along.

Yes he volunteers at Marshall Drive most Saturdays. Certainly every time i've been there he has. Hope you enjoyed 4 hilly laps!!.. including the big dipper at the bottom!

It was tough but I thought it was really good actually. Great views as you descend the hill before being swallowed up in the woods. I imagine it is a bit wild in winter.

Here is a pic from a parkrun tourist that wrote the run report.
But unfortunately there is no cafe up at Marshall Drive.. friendly people though...

There was even a yarn bombers calendar - it is believed they yarn in secret locations dotted around Teesside and North Yorkshire. They look like your granny, but are often seen with large sealed shopping bags. Their secret password is believed to be "cup of tea luv?" with a secret reply "with a rich tea biscuit please"

I'm not a fan of Helmsley. Nowhere to park, a few over priced cafes and very little to do. I like the castle but generally a **** day out
Have you not tried the big car park?

I like both Saltburn and Helmsley, lovely spots to have locally for a short stay, and plenty of places for a coffee in both.
