I’d be happy with that for the first half to contain if he then switched him out for Foden or Grealish in the second half to get at them. Don’t think he will though.

...aaaaand so the anti-southgate nonsense starts again. Foden had a very poor first half and a decent but not dominant second half. He's now being bigged up as the messiah and he isn't that right now. Saka has played better than Foden this season, and has played better through his england career. Southgate sees them in training and knows who is in best shape. Could be a 2 hour match, so Foden will get his opportunity at some point

You’re missing the point foden makes that side better look at yet second goal, he is the best young player currently in England and will be for the next World Cup so surely you’d play him.

I still can’t believe he wasn’t used at all v an average usa side ? As the Dutch showed.

Foden and Bellingham are or should be the future going forward.

Is he a better young player than Saka, who has lead Arsenal to the top of the table, they've got 10 goal contributions each, but Foden has better players around him. There is nothing between them for me, which means either could be picked, without complaint
 
Of course it’s all about personal opinion and Gareth picks who he thinks is best for that game that’s not my issue. Saka is a great player and I’ll be fully behind him if he starts. My issue was not using foden at all in the us game I just didn’t understand that.

I hope we make use of all our talents tonight and make changes proactively against a side I think will be come at us and try and play on the front foot.

Energy I think will be key tonight and use if subs could be crucial.

There could be very decent tactical reasons why, maybe Foden had felt ill like Maguire, maybe he wasn't looking that good in training, there's a whole host of reasons. I doubt he would have made a difference to the score. The game was a stale mate but in the end the effort the US had to expend in that match probably bit them a week later.

Not to take the shine or your love in for foden, but the second goal was all rashford and kane

Dutch side success came from soaking up, they play a different game to us. They also utilised their full backs really well.

I agree you build a team around foden, but if you want saka in you have to go foden as you ensure you reward rashfords second half

Nice to have options
