Saka

I reckon the team is going to be

Pickford

Trippier
Maguire
Stones
Shaw

Rice
Bellingham
Mount

Saka
Kane
Rashford

Starts tonight instead of Foden. No doubt Sterling is back too. Southgate has learnt nothing from the USA game if true.
Saka was very good against Iran and has probably been one of Englands best players over the last 2 seasons. I don’t mind him coming back in, though it seems a little unfair. That said Foden struggles on the right and has to play left or central to get the best out of him. I’ve no idea why Southgate took so many games to realise this.

I hope Mount doesn’t come back in, he hasn’t done enough for me over the last few years one or two good games but the majority he’s been pretty poor. Chelsea Mount doesn’t seem to show up for England we seem to get an imposter. That said he’s been cr6p this season for Chelsea as well.

I agree with you he’s been poor but I just think this is the type of game he will play him in. Could see him back on the bench in the quarters though if we get through and Henderson back in

I don’t think Southgate will play foden as 10 either. If saka comes in I think you’d replace him foden given rashford’s 2nd half performance

I would have 3 in the middle and control the game like we did against wales

Should be Saka, Foden, Rashford behind Kane.

Mount works hard and presses well, but imo to be successful as an international side you need creativity and players that can beat a man in those attacking positions.
Agreed, it’s the quick feet that’s required. When the USA pressed us we struggled. Press Mount and he passes backwards or loses the ball. Press Foden and he will take the ball past them and make them look silly.

I’m glad Saka is back in to be honest and would find it difficult to leave Rashford out. I think Southgate has called it right. Foden would be my first sub this time though ahead of Sterling and Grealish
I’d try to get saka In because he has pace and can finish
Similar to rashford on the other side
That said, I’d have Grealish in every single time before foden even though foden is clearly a very good player but grealish opens teams up time and again

I’d rather see grealish at 10 than foden.

I’d love to see them get a run of games together one on the left one at 10 and allow them to switch freely throughout. I think it would cause all sorts of problems for our opponents the only issue then is it would be an issue playing Bellingham in a two behind as he’s not good enough defensively to cover. So it’s a abit of a conundrum.
