Sack Wilder?

He is clearly a very good manager, probably our best since Karanka. I'd continue to back him as I don't think there are many out there better and available.

Today is arguably only our second bad performance of the season.

That said, our form is pretty awful so something isn't right. What is different about this squad than those that he's had at other clubs? Or is it the environment he's operating in? Genuinely not sure.

No
I think Wilder is totally ***ed off with the club for not getting all the players in he wanted - i do feel sorry for him in that respect, however i think he’s made some remarks that won’t have gone down very well with the players i.e. we’re not good enough in certain areas. Maybe he has lost the dressing room a bit and some of the team would be happy to see him go. It wouldn’t be the first time a team has effectively downed tools to get rid of a manager, it certainly looked like the players weren’t putting a shift in during that first half. If he’s going to go I’d rather it was sooner than later - who we’d get in is another matter
I agree we are way way short of players and they messed up but No manager gets all the players they want. At the minute he isn't getting a tune out of anyone. He thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread time he showed it.

Why do you think he is clearly a very good manager? Off Sheffield u or what u see here? Just interested

I want him gone he response to the Burnley questions last season tells me everything about the man. He's not trustworthy clearly the players arent buying his methods and his public criticism of the players is wrong. Good riddance to stubborn arrogant old fool

No.
Wilder will get us success. It’s clear as day that he didn’t get the transfers in that he’d asked for, wanted, or even thought he was getting. This midfield is not one he thought he’d be setting up with. We didn’t bid big for the lad at Preston or the Norwegian for fun. One of them was supposed to be playing alongside Muniz.
Wilder has a lot of work to do but **** me, he told the club (and us fans, the media, everyone…) where the problems were and what we needed to address, and the club came up just short unfortunately, transfer market wise.

He really didn't inherit a "mess" but he created one. He inherited a side who had only been around the playoffs the season before, he got them playing but then started slating the players in public, dropping them for his own boys who didn't work out and then tore the squad apart in the summer leaving us short in key areas.

Bamba and Peltier should have still been here to provide some experience and depth. Payero should have still been here to keep some depth in the squad. But they weren't his boys so he moved them on. Ikpeazu was at least replaced, but he was never given a chance under Wilder.

Moreover, he seems fairly tactically inept. The way we line up isn't working, we are too narrow, can't press as well without two up front, players get dragged out of position in midfield and defence and we look vulnerable on the counter every time. Yet he sticks with it and he doesn't seem to prepare for situations in games - three times this season (including tonight) he's changed things up and the players are looking at each other asking what they're meant to be doing. Tonight wasn't as clear that players weren't sure where they were meant to be as last Monday night... But how are they making changes when we're 1 down or 1 up that the players aren't expecting?

I'm reluctant to say that he should go, but I think he worked out so well at his previous jobs as he was an unknown quantity and he did something that the opposition didn't expect. He says he's not a one trick pony, but as soon as his trick was figured out he hasn't been able to come up with another one.

Knill/ Wilder’s tactic ‘specialness’ is the overlapping/ underlapping centre back. It HAS BEEN succesful for them. It took the Prem managers a season to work it out and the second season Sheff U got well and truely smashed and Wilder went. Well, everyone has worked it out now (there’s bloody presentations on how it works and how to counter it on YouTube ffs) and they don’t appear to be able to offer anything else tactically so where does that leave us…..? A dead duck?

I wouldn't sack him, but we were a shambles tonight, the team selection and tactics were wrong. It also doesn't help that we haven't got a single leader on the field.

No, he’s the best we can hope for, especially if we want to actually try and play football.

I’ve had enough of lump ball, but seemingly some of our players are not quite ready to let go of that yet.

It might have helped if we had spent some of the 25m on players he wanted, rather than two striker subs, and scratching around for players who can’t get a contract/ game elsewhere. It’s asking too much of the backup midfielders and 5/6 of those playing up front, but they may improve. Lots of pressure on Muniz now too, but he looks up for it. If we didn’t have that 25m to spend then it is what it is, better than going broke, but it’s just going to take a lot longer than I had hoped.

I’d like to see what we can do with our best 11 available for a string of games mind.

It’s like we absolutely nailed it on the loans, but completely wasted them due to not getting ready made (owned) starters in. I think Lenihan and Clarke will be alright, but I don’t know if these free midfielders can improve us. Seems like just maintenance/ hoping for no injuries to me, and expecting Howson to repeat last year, which is a tough ask. Forss and hoppe look like 5th and 6th choice, when we needed a no1 or no2 to go with Muniz, and we know 2,3,4 wouldn’t get a game up top for most sides in this league.

I hope tonight gives wilder food for thought. Yes, at times this season we have been very good to watch, but at the same time, we have had some poor performances. Tonights was similar to Preston away last season and it is concerning if, as a fan you had aspirations for being near the top. After last season I thought we would get the players we needed to have a real go but we didn’t. I know Wilder said he didn’t want to rip it all up, but you cant keep going the way we are as we are so predictable. Any team playing us just needs to double up on our wing backs and have the ability to break at pace against our ponderous midfield and chances will come. Match that with the defenders we had on show first half and it shows our vulnerability and results like this are always likely. I want him to stay to get it better and whilst he has to take responsibility there is no way in the world that anyone on here should let the players get away with that tonight also.

McNair

Gone for me...doesn't make tactical changes until far too late...should have changed it at 2-0 never mind waiting until half time. He seems to be worse with his own players...when he had Warnock's players we played well and saw the press that he keeps talking about. His own defenders can pass but not defend...a bit like Jones at right back. McNair, Crooks and Howson at times have been shocking.

You have to question Wilder’s team selection but when we are 2 nil down after 20 minutes following mistakes by ‘senior’ players like Crooks/McNair for the first goal and Howson for the second, it points to the general quality of our squad being not up to standard.

Some of these players have survived a few managers now and need to be looked at.

Sacking the manager won’t hide the fact we were let down in the transfer market, doubt any manager can make the likes of Crooks, Mowatt McNair, Mcgree and Howson good enough to be promoted

As said many times this club has been so badly run for so many years, a quick fix like changing the manager won’t help at this stage

We had a full window to replace them and still couldn’t get anyone in, I think the manager will be well aware they aren’t good enough
