Ryan Giles

Would people rate Giles as being worse than cox, parnaby, Fleming and pogatetz. I wouldn't and they all had decent careers in the prem. Mind you premier League has probably stepped up a gear or two since we were last there.

He will be coming back on loan before the windows shuts. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse defender in the Premier League.

Some dicksplits on here, he didn’t have the best game, clearly playing to orders though. His corner kicks were poor mind. 4/10 but that is partly because he was rarely passed to

He's considerably worse than Pogatetz and Parnaby (technically a very good player whose body wasn't really up to it). He's marginally worse than Fleming and Cox defensively but a better all round player.

None of those players listed were premier standard despite playing for us in the top flight all were championship standard at best and so is giles

Pogatetz was lower prem standard. Parnaby should have been but injuries. Fleming and Cox weren't. Giles agreed, champo standard, but at 23 with good coaching he could make it, but he needs specialist 1-to-1 defensive work, I think his confidence and respect in the game will be shot in 12 months though, itll be a long way back to the level he is 'enjoying' today.

He was brilliant for us. I would have loved us to have kept him. He definitely could have done with a further season in the championship, to help him develop his defending. But when the premier League is calling, you have to go.

However, it's a shame it's Luton, who I think are on to challenge Derby's record. He's going to get cooked every week - and that's in a back 5.

Perhaps if he'd played in the away game against them he may have felt differently? Given the way they conducted themselves.

He would not need to worry about playing against P.L opposition if he had come here. Would have been safe in the Championship for a long while :ROFLMAO:
He’s probably on triple the wages he was on at boro and a massive signing on fee
He’s laughing financially so will be fine with where that takes him

First goal he’s done by Sterling, but that can happen to anyone.

Second one he’s had an absolute stinker, zero awareness of what’s going on around him.

Giles would have been brilliant for us this season as he was last. His defending might have even improved with another season under his belt.
Not sure why we didn't do more to get him as he brings so much to the side, but he's gone to Luton and I personally wish him all the luck in the world with them or anyone else for that matter.

Echoing what many others have said, Giles was brilliant for us, so I genuinely wish him well in whatever he does and wherever he goes. I'd have loved to have him back.

I think the Luton move is an absolute stinker though, but if he was desperate for a PL move, and Luton were the only ones offering it, he's obviously not had much choice. I think they will go down as one of the worst sides in PL history and I'll be shocked if they get near 20 points. Admittedly, it's a good move for Giles' bank balance and the 'experience' of playing Premier League, but getting battered as a team, and in Giles' case probably being targeted as a weak link in that team every week is going to be pretty horrible.

He's still learning and adapting in terms of the PL, but we all knew that defending could be his achillies heel, but he made up for it with his attacking strengths.
Hopefully he'll grow into it, as will the rest of Lutons team, but I have bif doubts they will.
In terms his move there, we pulled out of the deal with Wolves, so it was an easy choice for him.

I think it was a more questionable signing for Luton than questionable decision from Giles. He's getting premier league football and wages. Can't really blame him for that.

But Luton, a fairly defensive side anyway, who will definitely be looking to grind out results and frustrate teams in the top division have signed a left back who came to everyone's attention because of his attacking capabilities.

Did they actually do any research on him at all or just go "everyone says that Giles lad is really good, let's sign him"?

Just seemed an odd signing for a side who need to try and be solid defensively to have any chance at all. Signing a left back whose biggest weakness is defending 🤷🏼‍♂️

The first goal was clever from Sterling. He was in the area both Luton defenders left a tackle to each other fearing a penalty. Sterling still had lots to do. It was an international class player showing his silky skills. Giles and the other Luton player were outclassed.

The second goal was poor, he looked like a little boy lost. When wider up pitch when he was given it he simply played it back. He did that a lot as last season came to a conclusion with us. His corners were poor and crossing nervy. He looked a fish out of water, but we don’t know his instructions and he is still getting to know teammates. Early days, but opposition teams will target him I think.

I wish him well, not Luton, he may be better off, but doubt he will enjoy his football and his confidence may be hit, but good luck to him all the same and i will remember his wonderful contribution to the gang of 22/23 fondly.

In theory I think he is a good signing for them as he is playing as a wing back so his defensive frailties should be less exposed. In practice Luton are so poor he spends a lot of time defending anyway. They may grow into it more as the season goes on, if the don't they are doomed.
