I don't think many people doubted we would have made good signings by the end of the window. In my case my issue was with the timing. I didn't want to get to the end of August (7 games into the season) and be 10 points off the pace and giving ourselves too much to do. 4 games without a win, 6 points off top and already knocked out of the league cup is kind of proving the point that the squad wasn't ready when the season kicked off. If we get everyone we want then I think we will have a squad good enough for promotion. We might not get promotion with that squad if we have given everyone else a head start. Hopefully we can get a few wins soon and that isn't the case.
To be fair we’re 3 pts up and Blackburn are top on 9 so 6 pt gap in august is nothing.

There is no gap yet

He could be 3rd or 4th choice after Forss and Hoppe have been here more than a couple of weeks, and with Akpom fit.

While that is true, we have less than a couple of weeks until the transfer window closes. I would expect a decision to be made before then.
I think I'd still rather keep Watmore over Akpom; DW has delivered over a longer period of time and makes him the safer bet for me, despite CA's recent good form.
However, 6 first team strikers probably is too many, given limited depth elsewhere.

There are still 3 more games in August. Our squad isn't finalised. If this trajectory continues until the end of August and we have the players we want then it could be 10+ points.

I'm not writing us off or anything but it's obviously not ideal to be giving rivals such a head start.

Getting to the close of the window tends to drive prices up, not down. If we could have got those players by paying the prices we are going to end up paying anyway then that isn't particularly good planning.

TBH this is the signing I have been hoping for. Watched him a lot last season(only on internet) when we were interested and I thought he looked class. Gets varied oals and not just a one trick pony. I said at the time I thought he would be a great buy for Fulham but as TeaCider says above you dont drop a player who gets you 43 goals.

I’m the same He always felt like the one that got away. When we didn’t get him (through warnock delay tactics) and I also kept an eye wondering what might have been and now…..

So now we get a second chance.

I know wilder has said Akpom is "part of the group" but i still wouldn't be surprised if he were to leave. Only has 1 year left and can't imagine we would give him another contract given where we hope to be, so if he receives a decent 2 or 3 year offer could see him pushing for the move.
I think it could work out for everyone - he is playing for a contract elsewhere so has a good season for us, we get promoted, and he leaves with well wishes to another champo team (which is probably his level) on the back of a good season

6 pts isn’t a head start it’s two games and we still haven’t played them yet.

It’s nothing.
We're still not at the end of August with our full squad, it could be more by then.

Oh, and last season we finished 5 points off the playoffs.

Don't worry, we have signed more players than the majority of other teams in the championship. Contrary to popular opinion we are at an advantage to most clubs.
