Riverside Quiet Room

And before anyone starts, I'm not talking about the West stand.

Does anyone know if there are quiet rooms withing the stadium or GRZ that cater for kids or anyone who would require such a place.

Planning on taking my 6 year old son today who suffers with SPD. We thought he was going to be ok but he's already starting to have a wobble and worry about the noise now. I'm in two minds whether to take him but if there was a place he could be taken for a but of respite if required I would probably chance it.

Good luck and hope you can both enjoy the game together 🤞

  • We have a Sensory Room on matchday, a calm environment for people with autism and similar conditions
Probably best to contact the club and get more details ..
Just called them and turns out they have a sensory room which is booked out by a family each game which has proper sensory facilities but they also have a "subs bench" in the East stand which is essentially a break out room for anyone getting overwhelmed by noise/crowd etc.

Subs Bench is great for me. Exactly what we need in case it gets a bit much for the little man

That’s great. Glad to hear the club have something in place. Hope it goes well.

Out of interest, where in the East stand is the sub’s bench?

Somewhere in the GRZ. He told me to find one of the "Happy to Help" people in the red tee-shirt for them to show me.

Still accessible from North Stand as well though

I think he said it had screens showing the match.
The impression he gave was that it was booked up well in advance.

I could imagine. My son has autism and SPD, I think the only way I could take him to the game would be by using the sensory room. It would be great if they could possibly utilise one of the executive boxes to be a sensory room so anyone using it could see the game in a live environment and also have use of the sensory equipment in there. I might speak to them and put it forward. It’s absolutely brilliant the club have a sensory room in the first instance however I must say.

Hope you and your lad have a great day today 👍

Sound's like you're sorted which is nice, I hope you have a good day. Just be wary of sitting on anything called a subs bench, if anyone asks if either of you can play at right back, say no

So the day was great.
We got to the ground about 1ish. Picked up our tickets in the North Stand.

Had an hour in the fan zone with some friends and their kids. Little man played with his brother on their electronics and enjoyed a hot dog etc.

We had decided to leave going into the the ground till last minute so to minimise little man's time in the noisy environment. So went into our seats around 2.45ish.

He stuck his headphones on and we headed to his seat. Headphones obviously let some sound through which was great because it meant he got up and enjoyed clapping to pigbag etc.

First half went smoothly. He sat ultra focused on the game and really enjoyed it. Headphones came off after about 30 mins.

I think the break at half time was bad for him and he started getting a bit anxious and unsettled at half time. It didn't help when we conceded as I had a bloke in front of me who decided the best reaction to going 1-0 down was to hurl abuse at our own players. Rogers taking the brunt of it. I think maybe that upset the little man. Headphones went back on.

He loved seeing Hackney's goal though and the headphones came back off as he sang a few songs when the atmosphere lifted. We ended up sneaking off after 90 mins to avoid the crush. I hated that personally as I never leave early and especially as I felt like there was maybe a winner there for us. But sometimes need must.

We didn't make use of the "Subs Bench" but was
close to it at one point. His mam almost took him down there. It was nice to know that facility was there is if needed.

Thanks for all the kind messages guys.

Oh and his first words when we got back in the car after the game were, "Can we come again Dad?" UTB
