GK's who played more games than Willie up to him signing
Tim Williamson 602 games
Rolando Ugolini 335 games
AJ Mathieson 264 games
Willie Whigham 210 games

Sorry Trug, the 460th player to sign for the mighty Boro
Crikey- That doesn't seem a lot considering the club was 90 years old when he signed. These days clubs have 30 or 40 players on their books,. How times have changed.

True, today's total so far is 949, which is Mendez-Laing

The official registered numbers could be lower as my figures are players who have signed & resigned, for example Juninho, David Mills, Dave Hodgson, Andrew Davies etc

Another question Erimus- I know about Tim Williamson, Rolando Ugolini, and of course Willie. But can you tell us anything about AJ Mathieson. I have never come across that name before in connection the the Boro

Played for the Boro between 1926-1933, he replaced ever present John Clough & made his full debut in the season George Camsell bagged his incredible 59 goals

A Scottish keeper who was a virtual ever present for just under 6 seasons

Thanks Erimus- now you have mentioned John Clough- the inevitable question is, who was he- how long was he ever present for?. Did he take over from the great Tim Williamson?

Yes Trug, you are very knowledgeable on the Boro

John Clough did take over from legendary Tiny Tim & was the 11th Boro GK who went on to play 128 games & was a virtual ever present up to Mathieson

Very sad news indeed. Willie was a legend. I was very lucky to look after both his brother in law and him and escort them to the MSS party, mentioned above. They were such lovely guys and Willie was absolutely made up with the reception he received at the party. All the attention from fans really bowled him over.
He deserved it all. Top bloke. Top player.
RIP
I was at that party Too. A spontaneous song of “We’ve got Willie Willie Whigham” broke out all over the Oval banqueting suite. You had to be there. 200 Boro fans as one, many not old enough to remember him, joining in with the song. Very emotional stuff.

MSS magazine did a feature on him after that. Anybody got a copy?

I have about 25 of those magazines, I'll see if WW is in one
