It is sad news - in that article they describe a save he made at Ayresome Park as a "backward coil" - I still rate it as the best save I ever saw at AP

Sad news indeed. My first Boro keeper, shook his hand at Ayresomes farewell.

My lasting memory is of him letting the ball go between his legs and into our net at Roker Park (1968 or 1969 perhaps), I think it might have been a back pass as well.
One of my heroes but that memory still haunts me.

My first Boro keeper when I started in 69.... RIP , met him 3 years ago at a match in the riverside in the legends Lounge. Bit of a lad was Willie. RIP
