RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Ring legend - RIP

On of the most dedicated, fittest and focussed boxers I've ever seen and only 66 years of age :(
What a golden era that was with Leonard,Duran hagler & hearns. When fighters fought the best & promoters didn't dictate, theres this obsession of remaining undefeated so they choose 1 sides fights but plenty of good boxers have defeats on their record. RIP hagler

RIP.
You didn’t have to be a boxing fan to appreciate the skill and bravery in those days, nowadays they don’t want their faces marked in case it affects their promotions earnings.

My favourite boxer.

A fantastic fighter with the heart of a lion.

He lit up the ring whenever he fought.

RIP Marvin, a true legend of the sport.

That's got to be the most explosive first round in any fight.

It was a great time to be watching boxing - what an era.

Sad news.

I'm too young to have watched this live, but what strikes me now is how long the ref lets the count go before waving it off. I don't think the ref would get past 4 if that fight were today. I'm not suggesting that's a bad thing, just a reflection of how brutal this looks.

Terribly young age. He was, out of the four of them, the one you expected to win in those huge fights. Leonard was the best technically. Hearns (my favourite) could lay out a block of flats if he caught it right, Duran could take a million punches and stay up. Hagler was the true fighter. He’d win from a mile behind and would literally fight to the death. All incredible warriors. RIP Champ

Most folk will point to the Hearns, Duran, Leonard fights but the one with Mugabi is a absolute war as well.
Mugabi had a lot of skill as well as being a great counter puncher, but going in to try to outlast Haglar in a war was never going to end well.

I agree with you on that but the fight game was much harder then, with incidents like you mentioned. Go back another 20 years to Sugar Ray Robinson and it seems barbaric.

Like most sports, changes have been implemented for the safety of the participants. I am also sure that in years to come, people will look on boxing like we do fog fighting and will wonder why people freely took part in it.

I get misty eyed looking back at that era :)
