RIP Jack Charlton

Sad day,the first Manager i remember as a lad.Dad started taking me to Ayresome Park in 1972 but Big Jackie was the man that made me fall in love with The Boro and football the next season. He was no nonsense but funny and a real Gentleman.Incredibly happy young childhood memories of him and that team. Thanks Jackie, you were the best.X.

73/74 was a great time to be a Boro fan, thanks to Jack. He took Stan Anderson's team and gave it what it needed. I had a Saturday job that season, so I didn't see as many games as I would have liked, but there was a buzz about the place that we've seldom seen since and he was almost single-handedly responsible for that.

RIP Jack.

Just said on Tees:

It took me four months to get them to understand what I wanted.......

I hope we give our current manager at least that long [Sign a contract Neil Warnock! Please.]

I always loved how he referred to sir bobby charlton as our kid.

“I’d never move south, I couldn’t live in the south”.

RIP Jack

For those of us old enough to remember the seasons under Jack were at least as good (probably better) than any other time in our Boro supporting lives.

Thanks for the memories Big Jack.

Just read a tribute in the Guardian. One of the comments about the 74 era after we won promotion to the 1st Division says "On Boxing day, the next season, Boro were top of the first division. Typically, Match of the Day showed the league table from second on down (they really did). " Does anyone remember this? If so, it is frankly unbelievable, yet, this is Boro we're talking about...

Certainly I remember when we were third they showed the top two.
