Remember him from The Sweeney as well. But the rapport between him and George Cole in Minder was class RIP.

I wouldn't say Waterman was the best of actors and his roles in The Sweeney and Minder, although on opposite sides of the law, they were very similar. I use to look forward to both programmes but seemed to prefer Minder over The Sweeney.
I got a shock that he was only 74.

RIP. Loved Minder and used to watch The Sweeney with my old fella if my mother was out! I also remeber him presenting football in the 70s on bbc about 25 years ago, basically old motd for each season, one each episode and includes Bill Shankly interview from 1975 saying he fancies Middlesbrough for the title.
