Right, Port Vale then

Amazing to think we have a cup quarter final coming up in 2 days. Really quite exciting. I've even booked the day off so don't have to rush down there.

Intriguing to see team selection. I'm guessing a few changes but hardly any really in terms of major shocks.

Glover
Bangura
Clarke
VDB
Dijksteel
Barlaser
One of the young lads maybe instead of Howson?
Silvera
Jones(edited as looks like Greenwood cannot play)
Rogers
Lath

Will be amazing to make it to a semi-final. Here's hoping we get it right on the night.

I would go very similar.

Glover

Dijksteel
Fry
Clarke
Engel

Howson
Barlaser

Jones
Rogers
Silvera

Latte Lath

Give VDB a rest for this one. He’s played a lot recently. If hackney is back I’d play him ahead of Barlaser.

Crooks over due a rest too

Was thinking exactly same as you Edinboro with the ‘young lad’ being Hackney, who Carrick said he hoped was back before Xmas.

Thought Crooks and Lath in particular looked knackered yesterday, but no option to play anyone other than ELL.

Send you a DM mate

Both clubs will want to get through to the semis for financial reasons:

Two games against Premier teams - home game likely 30k plus crowd - away crowd 40k plus

TV money for home game and increased commercial revenue.

If, and it's still a big if, because Tuesday will be a tough game, we get through the best team for us to face I think would be Liverpool.
They're still in 4 competitions, Klopp doesn't mind putting out weakened teams for cup games, even Semi Finals and we could with luck on our side beat them.

No way, they would annihilate us.
Our best route would be Everton, fulham or West Ham.
Avoid the geordies and Liverpool at all costs

Lets face it, we will struggle against any of the remaining teams over the 2 legs, and all of the remaining clubs will want us or Port Port Vale in the semi finals.
We have had a very easy route to reach the quarters, yes all away from home but all against poor teams.
We are an average Championship team, and if we manage to beat Port Vale (which we should), then I think it won't matter who we play against, it will be tough going.

Any of those other teams would play their strongest teams because it would be a really important game for them, for Liverpool it's the least important competition they're in so I think they'd play a much weakened team.
We've got to get past Port Vale first of course!

Rogers and Silvera must be guaranteed to start, for Greenwood / Crooks. Glover as well. Rest of the team will probably the same. He might rotate the defence but I'd see if we can keep a settled back 4 for a bit.

Just been watching last 4 Port Vale games highlights they are a very direct side and like to put crosses into the box this is usually something we do struggle with like

Let’s hope Boro can dominate the ball and control the game. Defensively we’re not great at the moment and Port Vale will fancy their chances.
