Red Faction

I loved it, maybe because I was born and raised in Teesside. Well done RF. Applauded by the fans when it was unfurled.

Not for a split second did I find anything upsetting, offensive , racist etc. about the Red Faction display yesterday and, in all honesty, I’m absolutely staggered that some people did. Racist! Really? I was neither born nor raised on Teesside, my father was and it was down to him that I support Boro, I am incredibly grateful that he raised me as a Boro fan. In the 50 years I have followed Boro home and away I have never felt like an outsider. The same goes for my son who now lives in the south of England and thoroughly enjoys telling everyone he is a proud Boro fan.
Why can’t people just get on with supporting Boro and enjoying the fantastic displays and superb atmosphere the Red Faction create instead of trying to find anything they can be offended by?

I wasn’t born in Boro, I was raised in Boro and I have raised the only 2 other Boro fans in my town (near Liverpool). We all go to the matches together. We always feel welcome and yesterday was class.. The kids loved it and funnily enough didn’t try to make issues out what was on the banner. It seems to be the older fans trying to make it political! Enjoy singing, enjoy the footy and UTFB

Thought RF's colours were Black and Yellow? 😂

Anyway, the comments about SG running the club like a club for local people is absolute b***ks.

Yusuf?
Ry?

Both been featured by the club on our social media, Yusuf in particular.

Apologies - I didn’t see it properly in the ground. I thought it said - where I was born where I was raised which I thought was a bit colloquial like you had to be either born here or raised here to be part of here. Reading it properly it makes complete sense now. It is about affinity with an area. Where I was born - I was raised. Excellent sentiment and apologies again for completely missing the point first time.

In a time of great racial tension - the born here - raised here mantra was a bit off for me.
Yeah, same for me too.

Of all the weeks to put up a banner about where people are born or raised, this week wasn't it. Not unless it was going to be a clear anti-racism or all inclusive banner, which this didn't appear to be.

I have friends who travel from York every match , they got 2 different trains and said both were rammed with York based Boro fans.
It doesn't matter where your from , it maybe could have been worded different , like
' Born a Boro fan , raised as a Boro fan '
Reading on , the words are from a song, and the lads took weeks to do the banner , so maybe not a change of words.
Let's not over think this , it was a great effort and looked great.

Another who’s missed the point. We’d have then had to have found a song by a well known local band that had the lyrics ‘born a Boro fan raised a Boro fan’ and played theat song before the banner went up…… nope I can’t think of any either.

Just to spell it out. ‘Where I was born, I was raised’ are direct lyrics from Cattle & Cain - Infent Hercules

I was a bit confused / concerned by the pre kick off display.

Can’t you support the Boro if you were not ‘born here’? Is there something less about people not ‘born here’.
Thought today was a perfect opportunity for anti racism - Middlesbrough a place for all people - whatever their race, colour heritage. Instead we got ‘Born here - raised here’ - not great for me and definitely music to the xenophobic anti people of colour fans.
You weren't the only one, I thought along exactly the same lines. Although I'm sure it wasn't intended the messaging wasn't inclusive and an absolute gift to anyone wanting to paint the area as inherently racist given the events of the previous weekend.

Yeah, same for me too.

Do you think they just knocked that up on their lunch break on Friday afternoon? It will have been planned well before the knuckle daggers made a show of our country. Fu ck me there no wonder we're in the state we are with such ridiculous views on both sides. We should have just called the game off and everyone should stay at home, never leaving the house watching Netflix and ordering everything to be delivered by amazon.

No, but TBH to send a banner request to a printer could be done on a lunch break, although I'm not saying it was, and probably not last Friday of course.

No need to throw your teddies out the pram, all I said was it was bad timing.

If it was ordered long in advance then it doesn't mean they needed to use the banner, or could not have used a different banner in the week between the riot and the first game. You know, maybe change the plans due to bad timing? Just seems obvious to me, the week after we've had a racial checkpoint on Ayresome Street (effectively the name of our old ground) and there's endless talk about people who were not bore here etc. Why have the doubt? Clearly people even from boro on here have doubt.
