Recommended Lunch/ Tea York?

You know the world has gone mad when someone wants a bit of tea in a cost of living crisis and he's presented with the option of 'Roots' 😆

That's £165 per person plus a drinks package cost of £75 or £155. Cheese is £21.

By the way, there's a 12.5% service charge as well.

Bill for two = £500 plus 🤣

Better off staying at home.
Maybe not Roots then Gent, pop in for a glass of tap water on the way to the Nepalese or the Syrian 🙂

Category 1: anniversary/ birthday dinner with partner/ family
Category 2: pints and bites with mates
Category 3: business/ meeting/ friend lunch
I’m a cat. 3 today.
It’s makin’ me hungry reading this thread
Might have an egg 🍳

That'll be why the place is empty then, no one goes.

Some very good suggestions on here (and a couple of iffy ones!)

Clucking Oinks for fried chicken, which grew out of Spark, which is great for street food and beers itself.

Los Moros is delightful (and Jay Rayner agrees), merguez sausage is perfection. https://amp.theguardian.com/food/20...t-review-a-lot-going-on-in-a-very-small-space

Best for curry IMO is Mumbai Lounge.

For classic cafe style food Bruk’s is great, down a little alley in the city centre.

Doner Summer for vegan kebabs.

As mentioned Trembling on Lendal is great, chorizo in cider is divine, really good value menu all around. Albondigas good too.

Skosh for somewhere fancy but pricier.

Ambiente for tapas is a big favourite of ours. The one on goodramgate is better, nicer building, more intimate and less noisy.

And the ice cream boat near Millennium Bridge. When it’s there.

Agree - but more than decent. Been a few times with my wife and been delighted every time. Discovered Monastrell wine there.
Worth googling it and having a look at the menu, reasonably priced as well.

I was a bit casual with that recommendation - it is a really great place. The food is excellent and they have a great selection of ‘refreshments’ (y)

Ended up Everest Neapalese lunch
Cresci pizza tea
Both very good
Tasty authentic value
Cheers
How did the bill stack up against the prices at Roots? 😎

With regards to Roots, is there any evidence it's busy? It's only open 4 day per week and there's tables available even this weekend and every weekend coming up throughout October. At the prices they charge, I wouldn't have thought being 'busy' is part of their business model. It's going to be more a case of getting fewer people in willing to pay a much higher price.
