Rebuild for next season

We’ll be better next season, maybe not automatic promotion better, but Carrick will have a full pre season and have his own players.

It’s the same **** every season , everybody assuming we’ll smash it the following year as they assume we’ll just build on previous season . It didn’t under wilder and there is every chance it won’t here. We’re facing teams coming down with **** tonnes of money who will most likely take autos

Face it , the F***ing chance to go up was now and they didn’t . They’re bottlers. That is the cold hard reality
Just like everyone thought Watford would? Absolutely no guarantees when you come down and we’ll be having a right good go. I’m pretty sure we’ll give Carrick as much money as we can and make some shrewd loans again. I’m gutted about tonight, but plenty to be positive about.

Giles will be available I think. He is not good enough defensively for the premier league. Cost us tonight (don’t get me wrong big reason why we got in play offs). Steffen who takes him? Won’t be a premier league no1. Ramsey will certainly be available. But too injury prone? Big worry for me 2 years running very poor end to the season. Why do we run out of steam? Fear a poor start and carrick may struggle.

The two teams going up automatically are still on parachute payments , so the argument is still valid .

I think you're the bottler.

But that is always the case. There are always approx 6 teams with parachute payments. I don't agree with the extremities of parachute payments, but there is nothing we can do about that, so we play the hand we are dealt.

There are no guarantees that we will improve next year, just as there are no guarantees that the relegated sides will be good teams. What we do know is there are a number of players that Carrick didn't want to use, or was reluctant to use because they didn't have the abilities he required to play the way he wants. So there is scope to move those players out and bring in his type of players. He can also get a full pre-season with the players, he had to change the tires while the car was moving. I'd think a pre-season will really cement our playing style and I'm looking forward to see how that develops. It's pretty obvious that we need to be more solid, we need more attacking options, I'm sure they have options they are exploring.

Lot of rubbish spoken and speculation.
We can have our say, but we dont know the details of what plan is in place - now we know where we start next season. Carrick has said consistently we have "plans" depending on the circumstances, on finance, etc. So lets take a breath and wait an see (y)

I don't know about Leeds finances, but Leicester are skint and Everton are in an even worse position. Neither can afford to be relegated.

I fully expect Chuba to get offers from premier league clubs, if that happens it difficult to see us being able to stand in his way, and to be honest he deserves a crack at the prem. He’d basically be set for life so you can’t blame him if he does go. I can’t even think who we could get to replace him with without spending a ridiculous amount of dosh unfortunately.

You got to look at the likes of Southampton and Leicester who are coming down too - the spending power they will have.

Archer Ramsey and Giles will appeal to them massively too with a hope they can seal PL move possibly too.

No chance they are here next season
Giles will not play in the premier league, he can’t defend and doesn’t have much bottle.Teams would simply target him as a weak link,as has happened this season.

Gyokeres cost 1 mill, Piroe was 1m basic, Zian Flemming was 1.7m, Tella was a loanee as was Diallo, none of the top attacking championship talent were recruited expensively, we probably wouldn't need to spend silly money, just scout properly. Although I seem to remember we were looking to spend 10m on Wilder's preferred forward, so I expect we will give Carrick money, plus whatever we get for chuba which could be 15m+

This is spot on. Love Riley and Forss but they lack dynamism and creativity.

I reckon Diallo is a possibility. Carrick spoke highly of him
Riley is a superb championship player and forss has played well until injured recently nothing wrong with those two. The thing that cost us promotion was the over reliance on howson who is still the heartbeat of the team losing him to injury cost us in the playoffs . We need a long term replacement for him two new fullbacks a new centreback plus a couple of good attacking players.

It's a bit more nuanced for me than to just dismiss the team as bottlers.
But I agree it was a golden chance.

All this 'we'll come back next season', and some of the type of 'I'd rather go up next season this season is too early' comments around this time of year make me cringe.
While we could well come back stronger, we only need a couple of recruitment decisions to go the wrong way and we're stuck on the back-end of a poor cycle for the next 5-6 years.
