Probably not good enough for the PL and a bad time to be taking on a project but that was the sort of signing I was happy about. Relatively low risk with potential.

Totally crackers how many injured players we took on that season, far too many gambles and projects.

There's something to be said for signing 24-26yo players with two to six solid seasons behind them (40+ games)

Leadbitter - Free - 26yo - six solid seasons behind him
Friend - £100k - 24yo - two solid seasons previously
Adomah - £1m - 25yo - six solid seasons behind him
