Racism at the Proms...?

Nice one, cheers, because she is.

I like a quote from Bertrand Russel which, and I can‘t put my finger on why, has suddenly come to mind:

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

Righto, mate.

Nice bit of abuse there, because I disagree with someone.

I fully understand her viewpoint on the lyrics of the song, I still think she's wrong.

A quote which could easily apply to those certain of offensive connotations in the songs in question.

It should be poited out that we are talking about THE LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS. Something almost distinctly different form the proms themselves. The proms are a three month celebration of classical music

This is spot on - mate of mine always used to buy a season ticket, attend every concert, but then (perhaps not entirely legally) sold the ticket for the last night at a price which covered the whole price of the season ticket .... and he could have made a lot more should he have chosen to do so, but just covered his costs. Quite common practice amongst those who appreciate their classical music but not into jingoism apparently

It's amazing how the BBC are simultaneously accused of being right wing by the left and left wing by the right.

 covered this daft point before on here. If you genuinely think BBC political coverage is balanced just because both sides criticise then:

1) you haven't been watching over the last 5 years
2) you incentivise people to make false complaints just to ensure their side can still use this argument.

The Andrew Neil interviews, Kuenssbergs postal vote fraud, Boris's pie eyed cenotaph coverup, editing out audience reaction in the debates, the QT host prepping the audience against Abbott, doxxing the poor bloke in a kids hospital that had a go at Boris. There's genuinely no contest. The BBC is obviously right wing.

The BBC NEWS output may focus on the right wing, that's true. However to claim all the BBC output is right wing is just wrong.

Agreed - it is a quote challenging ‘certainty.

Ben and the lady off R4 both have a view - Russel is trying to say its prob best to respect the other person’s view as legitimate whilst taking a different vew’

The problem is more that people have such simplistic views of left and right, and so they apply these to label BBC output. Simplistic views include: Modern Tory Party = Right, New Labour = Right of Centre.

I’ve never watched it — spent all that time in the mob and after I left I wanted a rest from so called artifacts of history, pomp and ceremony and everything that goes with it. Still it’s part of our culture and it’s there if you really want it— shouldn’t be discarded just “because”.

Talk about self awareness (lack of), the biggest embarrassment to this country is one Alexander Boris dePfeffel Blusterpiss Johnson.

It is likely my cynical old bias but I detect the manipulative hand of Cummings in this.

Johnson absent "on holiday" during fiasco with A level and GCSE grading and suddenly we have a convenient cause célèbre for him to provide the voice of reason as he returns...

How very, convenient.
