The Queen is probably more popular now than she has ever been over the last 68 years.
Ditto Prince Charles, quite a comeback from the Diana years.
William and Kate are proving immensely popular, as are their three children.
If absolutely necessary Andrew will have an accident.
The monarchy will still be here long after me, you, your children and probably your grandchildren are all dead.

I have read nothing but a meltdown over this online. I am confident 95% of the folk moaning have never and will never watch the proms. They definitely won't attend.
They wouldn't even know if it was canned all together. I seriously don't know anyone who gives a flying feck about the proms....until now
Just seems to be the latest daily fad to jump on in the racism storm. I have actually seen more comments from black people saying 'this really isn't going to change me life' and saying its pretty pointless.
I guess we will just keep going back and irradicating or changing things until we please everyone.....good luck with that

This whole story stinks. A change that nobody has asked for, that doesn't make any difference whatsoever to racism in the UK. Feels a lot like when there was suddenly a lot of news stories about banning fawlty towers and only fools & horses.
I know some will just immediately dismiss this as conspiracy theorising, but I find it very difficult to see these sorts of moves as genuine. They seem much more like they're designed to create a backlash, and to take the wind out of the sales of any growing anti-racism sentiment.

I watch the proms and regularly attend them. I genuinely think it's a mistake to try and change the last night, it's a crazy celebration and a British tradition (yes, yes, like slavery , colonialism etc...) It should be poited out that we are talking about THE LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS. Something almost distinctly different form the proms themselves. The proms are a three month celebration of classical music. Specifically designed to bring music to the masses. Which is why it is currently £6 to get in and it's first come first served. No elitism there at all. When people who don't watch the Proms think of the Proms, all they know is the last night. I find that sad as there's so much more to it.

Must admit Jam, I`m done with the BBC after always considering it a good instituition, how wrong I was.
After the Savile and Hall legacy and how many others.
Then the Neil ,Kuenssberg, Smith etc showing open rank subversion and bias- it finished them for me.
The carless disregard of open racism on Brexit and the treatment of Corbyn , plus promoting Farage at every opportunity was disgusting. The failure of Neil to interview Fatty capped it off.
They now kowtow to the Tories while thinking a few left wing comic shows spouting anti establishment satire forgives of them of their real dirty work of promoting right wing ideology .

Prince Charles "The Comeback Kid" I think not. Didn't do himself any favours sodding off to Scotland during early days of pandemic after testing positive for Covid 19. Should be on the ducking stool next to Dominic Cummings.
What kind of group are the Monarchy whereby Prince Andrew will have an accident(assuming your statement comes to fruition) to preserve their whiter than white personas.

I don’t consider myself to be anything like right wing; I’m an avid fan of Last Night of The Proms, I’ve always watched it since being a youngster. I can see no justification for dropping these songs as the lyrics, whilst being a tad impenetrable and wordy, actually celebrate freedom. I am more worried about some of the traditions in this country being lost because of a minority of protestors.

It's amazing how the BBC are simultaneously accused of being right wing by the left and left wing by the right.
Notwithstanding some questionable decisions over the last few years, especially around Farrage's constant appearances on QT as a good example, I still think the country would be poorer without its output.
Things like the Proms just show how much of a cultural legacy it continues to have.
