R-Kade totally gone

I see R-Kades been demolished and wiped off the face of Redcar sea front. My two sons spent hours at the skate park in their teens and came home with all kinds of lumps, bumps and bruises.

It was a safe enough place for the kids to go, but there was always the time I would be press ganged into taking a crowd of them and have to sit and watch in the cold.

In my youth it was a small fair ground with the waltzers being the made ride.

The area is going to be turned into a hotel and an 18 hole crazy golf course.

What are your memories of R-Kade.

Used to go to birthday parties there as a kid when it was still the Mungle Jungle.

I'm looking forward to that stretch to be done up though, I live right near it.

I was quite startled when I went past there a few weeks ago and saw it was all getting knocked down. It had been looking pretty decrepit though. Not been inside the place since I was a kid, when we'd get taken as a treat for birthdays etc. My main memory is of the Ghost Train 👻

That brings back some memories. I used to go to parties at Mungle Jungle, though I'd have only been young. Later my parents used to drive me through to Redcar to the skate park. I was terrible at skateboarding, but having a burger made up for it!

Again got invited to loads of birthday parties at the mungle jungle as a kid.

As a teenager spent many afternoons and evenings in there just hanging out and attempting to skate.
Highlight was seeing the Dirty Sanchez lads in there one day whilst they were touring the country.

It was also a go-kart track remember going with work on a team bonding exercise, but my childhood memories are from the amusement park a waltzer, set of dodgems, twister and a ghost train.

Lovetts must have taken it over from Codonas

I remember it as Lovetts, people in the summer actually queuing to get on the Twister, Waltzers and Ghost Train. I remember when the ghost train went down the hill, the whole place echoed with a ‘woooooooooo’ 🙂 #memories

I remember going as a kid during my skater boi phase. First time using a half pipe I sprained my ankle. Never put us off and we were there every Saturday morning. I remember the terrible burger van that was inside the building as well.

Live a stones throw away from it, near Coatham Green, but a few years now and never went near it. Has it been open recently? Always made me smile driving past it on the way to work and seeing 'Teesside Apocalypse', though.

Seem to remember some sort of siren too?

As a kid we were either treated to a run out here or a ride over the tranny to seaton carew's amusement park

I always remember it as Lovetts then Mungle Jungle. Don't ever recall going in after it became Mungle Jungle, but used to go into Lovetts as a kid with my parents.

:(

The one and only time I visited must have been about 55 years ago, I remember riding some circular thing, I think it was called the caterpillar, it started off as open above shoulder height but a canvas cover came up and completely enclosed everyone as it was spinning round.
