Question Time

It's certainly an interesting question as to what the "hard left" is.

My initial comment on "RW Loons" covered the likes of Tufton St where they basically want a small state, economic free for all and if you can afford it good. If you can't, get in the gutter and die. No public services, no NHS, state schools - meh.

Hard left as the opposite end of the spectrum to these eejits......🤔🤔

Corbyn is Mr Socialism, wouldn't put on the "hard left" side. His policies are about creating a better, more equal society not a communist state.

Owen Jones - again, a leftie. "Hard left", again I certainly wouldn't have him borderline Marxist.

So who would be these "hard lefties" in UK politics? Trade Union leaders - although Mick Lynch is a BrEXit voter - not very leftie.

Suppose it just kind of sums up where the UK is politically - centre really, with a load of "others" in the mix. Can't really sway one way or another for too long as the public don't like it.

I asked the question about what was 'wrong' because the term 'hard left' has negative connotations and has been used over the years to discredit individuals and certain policies, as away of protecting the status quo, meaning that people who use it to describe someone or something are are emphasisng and portraying hard left as something negative/bad in someway, well that's my view anyway.

I guess we all have our own political scale where we put ourselves, and then others in comparison.
Indeed. The only thing I’d say that is “negative” about the “hard” Left is that it tends to be more dogmatic. Dogmatism is the cause of a lot of the world’s problems, in my opinion, especially in politics (and yes there are exceptions).

As I say, I feel like Hard Left and Far Left aren’t entirely the same thing.

There was a strong “Left wing” argument for Brexit, amongst some cohorts.

So it seems you are not meaning 'hard left' as it seems you agree with what people on the left are saying, you are meaning hard in terms of their approach of articulating what they believe in as being 'hard'?

Well, when you look through history at what people have to do and sacrifie to achieve any meaningful change for the poor, working class and ordinary people of the country, then being dogmatic in your views for achieving a more equal and fairer society is quite tame really in comparison.

Well, all of that may be true. But I was talking about QT panellists, and Jones is unquestionably someone the Right would see as “loony Left” or whatever term you want to use.

He was really just an example of my belief that QT is a lot more balanced than many on here seem to think it is, at least in my opinion.

You said you believed Owen Jones was hard left, not the right thought he was, although that might well be true as well.
I understand your views AB, I just have a different view on this occasion about 'hard left' what it stands for and what you need to do bring about change. We could go on all day, have a good one and UTB.

👍 you too

The ‘Hard Left’ don’t appear on TV programmes, nor do they write articles in National newspapers. But in the days of the big demos they would make an appearance, after lunch usually, when the TV cameras turned up and proceed to put a few scaffold poles, or what ever happened to available through windows of banks or such.
Then have a ruck with the cops…some would be arrested, but never seemed to end up in court, if I remember.
Owen Jones is just someone who writes the stuff that he knows certain editors of titles expect from him. Kerrrching.
The ‘Hard Right’ do the same things as the Left, but to different people
They haven’t the “Airtime” level of the Left. They serve a different purpose.😉
