Having read all of the posts since my opening post last night, I hope no one took my comments as being a 'Tory shill'. My points very much came from the angle of no one who votes Conservative is going to be swayed in the slightest by the type of performance from the Labour MP last night. They need to be more forthright in their views and actually attack those in power instead of holding back.

Have to say that's a bit revisionist.

Corbyn took May's majority off her in the 2017 election, broke the record for the number of times an opposition defeated the government in parliament, broke the record for the largest government defeat in parliament and got parliament to vote through a motion holding the government in contempt. Labour were ahead in the polls through to the end of 2017 as well. Obviously it all went very wrong for him 2018 onwards but I don't think it's right to say he never landed a punch vs May.
I thought those defeats were down to tories rebelling over brexit? Now who’s being revisionist?

Still you? Tory backbenchers rebelling against a tory government is what the leader of the opposition wants isn't it?
Yes I suppose but I wouldn’t have given any credit to the leader of the opposition. It was Tory infighting wasn’t it ?

I think that's very motivated reasoning.

If you're not willing to give credit for record breaking defeats in Parliament, for election gains (if not victories), and then at the same time you're unhappy about the opposition not laying a glove on the government then I'm not sure what you're actually wanting? What would landing a punch be?

Simple. I want an electable Labour leader. 👍

Labour need to think more carefully about who they put up for tv appearances. Performances like that set the party back.
Given the repeated appearances by a select few politicians, Labour or otherwise, I get the impression QT struggles to attract a wide variety of MPs to appear, perhaps because they realise what a ***show the program usually is and doesn't really benefit their public perception in any way. Personally, I'd rather they got rid of MPs entirely - complete waste of air time. We already know they're going to dodge questions, spew the party line and jab the finger of blame at the opposition parties.

I stopped watching it because I got fed up of shouting at the TV with politicians not answering the questions they were asked and no-one insisting on getting an answer.

So what's the solution?

This...

How about some solid policy? Getting behind things (whether they are popular or not) and sticking with it - taking the standpoint that over time we will convince the electorate through solid arguments.

The problem Labour have is that Starmer has saddled himself to a one-horse lie that he can't reverse-ferret from.

Namely that the 2017/19 manifesto was to blame for Labour's woes. All evidence points to the fact that the manifesto was hugely popular and it was the confusion around the parties Brexit stance that led to people in traditional Labour seats not voting Labour.

The confusion was the brainchild of one K Starmer. In trying to distance himself from that debacle he has ditched the very things that made Labour (as a party) electable. There is always going to be a media barrage against the Labour Leader (which is why the party needs and needed to close ranks). The one thing that Labour can do is be consistent about it's aims and purpose.

Starmer has ripped up the very thing he promised to keep. Every problem since is rooted in that.

Labour need to define what they are and quickly. Forget polling. Forget focus groups. Stop trying to out-LibDem the LibDems.

She was hopeless

I’m so glad it’s not just me that thought so.

Labour as an opposition party are hopeless utterly useless and have completely lost me. I’m politically homeless. Suspect I’m not alone
Ask yourself this though ;
Acknowledge what you think about the current Labour Party and then….
Sit and think…
Does this mean I’m happy with the Tories in power because labour aren’t as good as I’d like them to be ?
what’s your answer ?
I’ll tell you my answer and the only answer really if you believe in social justice ;to vote labour BUT keep banging on about not being happy with their approach/policies/ opposition style etc etc or whatever you think they need to improve….

Plus, there are lots of good labour politicians so really don’t put them all in the same box and generalize because that’s lazy.

This. And what Corcaigh said.

I'm getting a bit sick of people blaming labour for the worst government we've ever seen. Criticise them by all means, god knows they need to do better. But they aren't responsible for the actions of this government.

I'll tell you who is responsible, people who seem to be looking for any excuse to continue to support the crooks or at least stand by and let them continue running the country into the ground.

Assuming they aren't Tory shills shame on them and everyone else who thinks the same way. This government has inflicted unbelievable misery on people and look like continuing to do so. "Labour aren't perfect" is a pathetic excuse to allow them to continue.

In fact labour can never be perfect because the labour the likes of the centrists want is very different from the labour the Corbynites want. I've seen both types moan "they can't possibly vote for labour" while criticising the government for being as bad as they are. Both sides need to get over themselves.
Great post festa fella

I’m a left leaning labour supporter but realize that the only way we’ll convince enough Thatcherite generational me me me voters is to campaign from complete Centre ground and then when you’re in begin the social justice type left policies that benefit the whole of society versus this ‘free market economy’ BS that erodes eventually wrecks communities.
Don’t stop opportunity but ensure checks and balances to these people to keep an eye on whether they have their ‘noses firmly in the trough’

That should be a dictionary definition of a Tory :
one that is consciously inclined to; ‘have their noses firmly in the trough’
