I would surmise that a lot of people have forgotten because the institution has carried on without challenge, the country hasn’t changed whatsoever for better or worse since she died and her son became the monarch, and the idea that she (the person) was some kind of inspirational heroine was always quite exaggerated really. She was hardly Tina Turner.

Its in every paper. Charlie has been on about it today and earlier in the week there was talk about a memorial. The Royals try to get in the news as much as they can these days. Lest we forget they are there and spend their income on something more deserving

Exactly. This is what I was meaning. Apparently she did loads of amazing stuff for this country. Turns out she was basically just carrying out a ceremonial duty that has no real benefit to any of us. Like her son is now doing.

If it was just the government's doing, what exactly does the Queen, King, or Royal family actually do? Just a figurehead family who are the biggest benefit cheats the world has ever seen, but the migrants coming to England are the real problem, right?

What do they do? In my opinion they uphold the cap doffing feudal system right up to the present day and millions of brainwashed punters actually like and endorse it.

They might not appear to do much but the establishment will know how important they are to upholding a particularly British approach to society where the lower orders know their place in the hierarchy.
