Probably the biggest iconic legend in our history

I get it, he is your favourite and will be for some others, but to call him Mr Middlesbrough is definitive and he is not nearly that in my mind, not even close.
Brian Clough scored way more goals in half the matches, whilst playing alongside Peacock who was more prolific than Hickton anyway in terms of goals per game. Both Boro lads too. They are just two who are more significant in my mind.
All of them were in the second division; we have had top flight superstars in different eras too.

We all have favourites, not all the same.
Clough and Peacock didn’t dedicate their life to the Boro - There is no right or wrong here. It is all about opinions.

Neither would Hickton if he had to put up with what was going on.

Hickton was brilliant for the Boro but only an icon to a certain age group.

True, I wouldnt have thought fans who never seen him play would have the same affection as those who were there would & why should they, yes, we've seen far better players (sorry John hope youre not reading this 😞) Souness & Maddren to name two from my favourite team, but in all walks of life you'll have a favourites whether, it be a song, group, colour, number shirt, trousers it doesnt really, big John is for me, Mr Middlesbrough, loved him then & still do to this day

When I put together my scrapbook during the 1973/74 season, the two 'Star Players' I chose for a special focus were Armstrong and Murdoch.
They have stuck with me ever since as my favourite players.

Why?
Hickton a very significant figure, but really not the biggest iconic legend.
Camsell, Mannion, Hardwick, Clough, Souness and Juninho are all more significant figures to me.
We all have our favourites, the problem is when people get definitive.
Clough TLF and Souness(despite me thinking hes the best player we have ever had) couldn't wait to get away. Fabulous players but that stops Iconic being attached to them for me..
In my time following the Boro( 58 seasons ) Big John is one of the few I would put iconic next to his name.

I thought the imbecile on RR posting as erimus74 was a fake due to overuse of "mighty boro" and frequent mis-spelling of competitive. Now I'm not so sure...
