Press Conference 2pm

Difficult one this. Carrick has to be positive for the players and the fans.
You can say we need realism and we need to ask why we are where we are - but at the same time Sheff Wed showed a side with really brittle confidence or lack of confidence. Is it a question of having to build on the small positives of that 2nd half goal. We all know that it was a gaping opportunity for a win against a terrible side but has it taught a little more about who we need to play in the side and who we can't afford to play in the side at this point?
As I say Carrick will surely be very mindful today of morale of players and fans - and what he can say and what he shouldn't say.

Coventry are struggling as well and Robins' comments after the game on Tuesday were interesting in comparison:

I reckon all of that could be applied at us but Carrick isn't saying it.

Coventry manager Mark Robins:

"We didn't start the game with the tempo we wanted which was disappointing. They are organised with some good players, but we weren't brave enough and didn't get on the ball.

"We went a goal down without laying a glove on them. The goal gave us a bit of a lift, but we're normally braver and better on the ball than that and we didn't do enough.

"We had a lot of possession, but it's vanity if you don't do anything with it. We've scored two goals away from home, but three poor goals conceded and we have players who are better than that and can defend better than that.

"We are scoring goals, but certain performances have been lacklustre and we are going to have to work.

In comparison - is pride really the emotion we should be feeling?

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick told BBC Radio Tees:

"It was a game of two halves. The first half I felt for the players when things aren't clicking - maybe an element of doubt was creeping in. Going behind really kick-started us and gave us that freedom to go and chase the game down and show what we're capable of.

"There are two sides to it - I'm really encouraged because the performance is in there, but we can't keep giving ourselves too much to do. It's frustrating and disappointing but I am hugely proud of the players for the second half.

"It was not an easy place to be in that dressing room at half-time when you've had a run like we have but the players went out and faced the music and bounced back so I'm really proud of them."

.... to be fair, if it also runs long you could be potentially missing 'A Place in the Sun' or 'Tenable' at 3pm.

Not worth it

Am just desperate for us to pick up points.
We all are Rob, but we need to be realistic of where we are. It would be good to hear that he recognises that we have massively underperformed this season and that they're looking at trying something different. Either he doesn't think we need to, or is incapable of fining another way? I get why he is trying to be positive, and its probably a very different Michael Carrick that we and the press see to that the one that the players are seeing, but these press conferences are just going through the motions and aren't exactly inspiring. I'd love to see some passion!

The media conferences have become non events recently which don’t reflect well on the manager. I would like to hear some honesty and passion to improve.
I would also like to know what’s happening re Dijksteel. What is his injury and when does Carrick think that he will be back in the squad?

Just to move away from the TV guide for a couple of minutes...

All those crying out for 'passion' in news conferences, just remember we've had those clowns in the past who rant and rave, and give the emotive sound bytes - but its all nonsense.

I agree, we need more actual info from MC. But I certainly dont want him to change his calm and focused personality and turn into a caricature of some of the managers from the past.

I'm hugely proud... dear me

You don't need to rant and rave to show some passion.
