Premiership or Championship

Accepting Championship ***** becomes accepting League One ***** and thinking thats an ok level.
Before you know it you'll be with Corcaigh and a hundred others watching a bunch of cloggers.

I'm no lover of the PL, can't abide what it's become, no interest in it one iota but agree with you totally, we need the PL for the money alone, even if for one season

Norwich frit between the PL & championship & will continue so, they've taken over our record of the most PL relegated teams

Don't care either way. I'll go to the Boro regardless if division. The Premier League has changed so much since Boro were a truly established top flight team.

Love the glorious madness of the championship compared to the pure survival that the PL is every time
Glorious? Not much difference in terms of quality of the teams add into that the extremely poor level of referees and match officials and it becomes more and more like a game of chance rather than skill and determination.

The prem has a lot more going on. Leagues within the league.. more chance of cup progression. When you get beat it tends to be by world class athletes rather than the the team that has the tallest bloke in it.

The pl has 5-6 teams the rest play purely for survival every year .......so if you are one of the Not Six" teams you get beat by world class athletes all the time , then get relegated .....hope to hang on to any decent player you have & hope the money saves the financial bill playing in the PL imposes on yr club ...I think people forget how close we went debt wise in the PL years ago , approx 80 M debt allegedly ?

It's really the other way round. Teams are promoted so get a £100 + million windfall. If the team avoids relegation, then it's the same again. When and if relegation happens then the parachute payments cushion the blow of paying Prem League wages in the Championship.

So promotion can underwrite several more years of operations, whether it is the Prem League or Championship.

Boro did OK in its last Prem League campaign, a £5 million profit if I recall.

I don't think some people realise we have greater debt and lower nett worth as a result of being outside the PL. Nowhere more so than right now.

But for the normal poster on here it’s not worth worrying about is it?

Because the normal fan can do nothing about it.

And the normal fan can do nothing about the strength of the squad or who is the manager.

Or who owns the club.

I didn't raise the finances and debt, perhaps you should be directing it at Benjiboy who I responded to.
You are right the normal fan can't do anything about it, but they can comment.

I was only commenting myself, and you are right that being outside the premier league effectively starves the club of money.

I've watched more football on TV in the last few months than I have for years, more of the Boro than I've ever seen.

The top level is uncompetitive in many games with teams looking to hang on from the start, as we did last time we were in there. When you do get a competitive match however, it's really good.

Most Boro matches have been dire, even when we've won. We're spoilers, out to kill the game and it's awful to watch. You get teams coming to the Riverside playing more open football and taking points away with them. We've got to bring fans in when the grounds re-open and we're not advertising very well.

We've had some right duffers in the championship here on premier league wages.. it's not just us either!! Sunderland went down with that particular noose around their neck.

not THAT much difference

Whatever league the Boro are in I'll take most interest in .. but the PL these days to me bar the few odd games, bores the sh1te out of me. Like someone said earlier in the thread, I rarely watch MOTD anymore and I never used to miss it if in on a Saturday night but would defo watch it on a Sunday at least.

Lately I haven't given a toss about MOTD ... I follow some team's results in the PL but that's about as far as my interest goes. It's gotten dull these days I think. though since Covid, strangely, things have been harder to predict in almost every league I guess, and that has made the PL a little more interesting to watch sometimes as we've seen some off it scorelines this season .. in PL and ours.

I did predict before the season started that Liverpool would make a terrible defence of their title but that's about all I got right. I suppose it'll be interesting to see who finally gets them other CL spots under City and Utd ... also Fulham are only 3 points behind the Toon now 😂

I kinda hope the Toon don't get relegated though. They always seem to absolutely boss the league and go straight back up in 1st place. Fulham coming down is bad for us too though as it will be harder to hold onto Kebano I'm guessing.

But aye back to the thread discussion, I think the Championship is far more entertaining than the PL, currently.
