Poppies

A couple of empty shops have opened their doors to the RBL as pop ups locally selling not just poppies but other RBL accessories.

I saw that, it's quite a crass form of marketing
No, I disagree it has an element of black humour that will be familiar to many former service personnel.

Also the rum is supposed to be rather nice and I do like the "pin" thing for opening. I think it's a bit expensive for what it is though, I just got a bottle of 12yr old Flor de Cana for less than that. (£35)

Plenty on sale in Edinburgh, bit far to go for one though ST.
We also have a mobile unit on Princes Street selling the merchandise.

I'd be annoyed if I was asked why I wasn't wearing a poppy. It's not mandatory.
Absolutely, it's not mandatory and even if you did want to wear one there's a million reasons why you might not be e.g. you have loads of other things to remember on a morning

Not being funny but I'd be telling your colleague to mind his own business, how rude! IMO, anyway.

I've seen the odd stall in supermarkets and unless my brain has made it up there was one outside in the middle of Yarm High Street the other day.
Tbf she wasn't being rude, just chatting but I felt bad for not having one. Also not carrying cash would be an issue I guess even if I did get one

Haven't seen them for several years. Last week there were poppy sellers in Sloane Square. Of course I don't carry any change nowadays but they had a hand-held terminal for cards (min charge £2). I'm old-school so I will now have some change when I go out.

I never buy a poppy but put money in the collection tins. My issue is that a day later the gutters are full of bits of green plastic.

My wife doesn't like when I go down to the village green poppieless for the service. I have never been asked about not wearing a poppy, but I know most people in our village.

A member of the audience at my local theatre had a lilic poppy as well as a red poppy. I asked her what was special about lilac and she said it was for a memorial for the killed horses in WW1 - she said there were 3 million killed - 3 times as many as humans in the British forces.
Millions of dogs and thousands of pigeons were also killed in action. What colour do we wear for them? Never mind the donkeys, cats and elephants.

It's a nice sentiment but the numbers are a bit off.
