What happens in this scenario, you are away on a weeks holiday, staying in an Airbnb rental and half way through the week you get pinged telling you to self isolate???

I was wondering the same. I was away with work last week. Luckily I wasn't pinged but what's the protocol? Self isolate in hotel, or travel home and risk spreading the infection?

Were you pinged on the app or contacted by track and trace. Pinged on the app isnt a legal requirement so its your judgement if this was the case.

If its the app check in the settings to see if you were out mixing with people on the day its says you were in close contact with someone.

My partner got pinged and we are certain it must have classed the people next door as close contact, as she was home all day with the baby.

For me if it was just the app, I'd take a test every morning whilst there and avoid contact with others outside of your family, i.e no indoor restaurants.
Have a think back to what day it may have tagged you, and try and trace where it may have been. I wish this would just give you a date and a time, it would make peoples decisions easier, as I expect loads treat it as a false alarm no matter what.

If test and trace then rang, I'd drive home and leave the rest of the family there, if that was an option. This assumes you can drive without stopping, or coming into contact with anyone else.

Tough one though, depends on what you're doing, where you are and who you're with.

Pretend that you didn’t see the notification and just enjoy the holiday. I suspect that some people will do that anyway.

It's not fit for purpose. My wife's colleague got pinged and she'd been nowhere other than to drop off some shopping on her sisters doorstep, her sister had covid, and although she followed the rules, put the shopping on doorstep and stood back after she'd rang the bell, the app picked it up as she was in the vicinity, but definitely did not have close contact!?

Doesn't it need to be for more than 15 minutes, within 2m?

Did she go somewhere else before dropping off the shopping (ie to the shops)?

Probably to the shops, but surely you're not in the vicinity of 2 meters of another shopper for that length of time who is positive unless you're following them around the store, I think if shopping set it off, we'd all be isolating.

None of her colleagues were pinged so it wasn't at work, so they deduced it must be that. As I said, her sister was definitely positive, and she stood well away from the doorstep, much more than 2m, but was there for over 15 mins chatting.

My wife is a teacher who has spent the last 16 or 17 months in school Monday to Friday surrounded by kids and they have had over 100 positive cases in that time. She didn't get it, wasn't contacted or advised by her school to isolate in all that time.

Then after finishing school last Friday, she and quite a few of her colleagues were 'pinged' on the Saturday morning telling them to isolate for 10 days. If it was just her I'd say she was unlucky. As it is about 20 other people she works with in the same position I'm a bit more sceptical. Its a complete and utter shambles. I told her not to bother and to take a test every day, which she has done (all negative) but she wanted to do the right thing. Her isolation finishes today.

If she was there for over 15 minutes and there was no physical obstruction between them then that's why it has registered as a contact. The low energy Bluetooth detection is what they are thinking of trimming to make it less sensitive.
Part of the problem with testing every day will be that you could conceivably be infected and out and about. Once you then test positive it'd set off a whole load of contacts and others would be pinged.
To be honest I'm not sure of the best way forward with the app as I honestly think we have too many infections currently for it to be fit for purpose.

I’m starting to think the app is best taken with a pinch of salt, it’s not set up correctly yet, will take another look at it if it appears to have ironed out the issues.
