Been covered in some depth on the old board I think. Tan as far as I can tell is from Tandem but someone from Co Durham also told me that when counting sheep, farmers there say "Yan, tan..." in place of "One, two..."Not sure how local as such, but if you were asking someone for a lift on their bike, would you say "gizza croggy/crossy" or "gizza tan"? Id never heard of Tan before until a lad I know said it years ago! Think it might only be used on certain estates in Boro?
Much shorterOtherwise shortened to 'Now mirt'

I always though yan, tan, tethera was Cumberland dialect - it's certainly used there.Yan Tan Tethera from North East of Teesside.
Chor is a Hartlepool saying.
The song was about a shepherdess from Swaledale. Love a bit of Jake Thackray. Clever bloke. Despite being from Leeds.I always though yan, tan, tethera was Cumberland dialect - it's certainly used there.
