Part way through the week now - but fantastic gigs through this week.
Only 20 minutes up the road from Teesside and it is a great venue at East Durham College, on the road into Peterlee Town Centre.
Jazz violinist Emma Fisk headlines tonight (once long ago of The Rye). Emma is from Peterlee and has accomplished so much in her musical career.
Elaine Palmer and Kathryn Williams tomorrow - two phenomenal singer songwriters. Newcastle-based Kathryn has won so many awards - she was once Mercury Price nominated. Elaine is recently returned from California where she has recorded a new album which I have been told is pretty sensational.
The gigs are ridiculously cheap and finish early - so good for schoolnights.

Went to the gig last night in the superb auditorium at East Durham College - tremendous gig and atmosphere with Elaine Palmer and Kathryn Williams collaborating with Primary school kids as well as playing their own music. Both singer songwriters had worked with primary classes to produce wonderful songs to their Peterlee. Kathryn was so moved by the experience she bought 35 ukuleles for her school out of her fee.
The kids in the audience joined in with Kathryn Williams Moon Karaoke from their seats. Kathryn is going to the school to perform with all the kids this afternoon.
What a treat for all the youngsters to work with two leading singer songwriters and actually get up on stage and perform their own composition. An experience that they and their families will never forget.
Tonight you can still get tickets for Smoove and Turrell, Futureheads play Saturday night and Lake Poets with Paul Smith (Maximo Park) on Saturday - I don't know if the children will be involved as the singer songwriters make way for the bands but it is such a great venue and great to be part of landmark gigs for the 75th birthday of a "new" town.

Really wish I had gone to this on Thursday but tickets were sold out. One of the schools performing was the school I work at, and kids I teach. Although definitely not the one that will be receiving ukuleles! The kids are mostly fantastic.
Apart from that, Peterlee is an absolute cesspit. Not got a good word to say about the place. The mentality of people from there, easington and similar places goes to show what folk from these areas are like. When talking about football they really have no idea and all I usually get is stuff about being a ‘nappy ripper’.

There is also a Sunny Blunts exhibition which starts Friday 2 Feb

We've got Richie Culver playing a bespoke piece live, straight after the open evening. For a Boro link - Rachel Deakin & Stu Langley (from the Auxiliary) will present a video short, & Bobby Benjamin of Pineapple Black will be performing spoken word.
