People knocking Teessiders for voting for Houchen.

The shenanigans at Teessworks and the allegations surrounding Houchen are bringing out a lot of negative emotions in people. I get it, but think people need to chill a bit and just let things run, see what happens.

It's a bit sh*t, but nowt we can do to change things. Be nice.

👍

I stay away from debating politics on message boards, it really brings out the worst in people.
I don't disagree with you and fully understand where you are coming from and absolutely respect that.

However, (and this part isn't directed specifically at you, just a general observation) ... In a healthy democracy, politics SHOULD be debated and discussed. I wish our papers were full of analysis and explanation on policy, that people were taught and learned and discussed the pros and cons of policy and arguments were about ideas... However the media loves tribalism and loves creating this adversarial environment that creates the thing you quite rightly want to avoid.... They keep us fighting amongst ourselves and maintain the status quo in the process and real democracy takes yet another serious injury.

Most issues are completely solvable when they are looked at properly and not managed through focus groups, targeted demographics and deliberately playing on people's concerns and fears to engineer votes. Divide and conquer kills debate and kills democracy 😢

How very dare you go against the grain on this board and see the wider implications on what Teesside has to offer and be very logical in your thinking. Even some of the board ADMIN, even though, meant to be impartial, hate the thought of the Houch having some power in the Tees Valley, because he wears a blue tie, trying to make this depleted area great again, rather than being a stagnant area it has been for the last few decades and shame on that them for that attitude. This board has become a sheep mentality when it comes to politics. NOT ONE voted for BREXIT and NOT ONE voted for the Conservative party in the last election, yeah right, more hypocrites. I can see why popular ex members like Erimus left this board because of the rancid board it has become. Happy to receive to the grief for this post but could not give a flying fook about it. This board has being going down the pan for the last few years anyway.

A couple of points of order.
1. What makes you think admin are meant to be impartial? The board owner is broadly left and the fanzine that the board originated from has always been broadly left.
2. There are posters on here who vote Tory and there are planty that voted for Brexit (from the left AND right of the political spectrum).
3. The board has been going down the pan right from the day I joined .... this may be a cause and effect thing, or it may be that every now and again someone takes umbrage at something and states it as fact.

On top of this. It's not like the admins forbid alternative views or stop debate. They're allowed to have an express their own opinions.

Unfortunately the idea of democracy is an illusion. It’s mainly an aristocratic concept in Britain. Those with wealth and privilege get into the right circles and if interested in politics after their Oxford or Cambridge PPE inevitably end up an MP, and usually a Tory MP.

Since Labour was established non-privileged people have got into politics but the aristocracy remains. The media keeps it all smooth as most of the senior people in those organisations have also gone to the same schools as the rest.

Totally. Which is basically what I'm saying, what a democracy should have, but doesn't and why it doesn't. This adversarial nature that's bought about is yet another tool used by that establishment. Keep us fighting and not discussing the real issues.

And back onto Houchen.

He has played the classic Tory neoliberal con trick with Teesworks. Take land and wealth that should be public, and transfer it to private. It’s been happening in mainly England since the 80’s.

I actually think Houchen initially got into local politics for the right reasons. His idea about Teesside Airport was decent. Any regular travellers from there with Peel could see the place was a mess and being ran down. He’s since disappeared down the Tory rabbit hole, no doubt encouraged by the cnut Johnson. Hence why they made Houchen a so called Lord.

Absolutely agree.
